Let's get expert opinions (Hanzy can participate too) 1) Do you think Diaz looked better at 170 or is Markham just garbage? 2) Did Palhares hold on a little too long? 3) Does Jon Fitch ever get another shot at GSP or is he wasting his time? 4) Does the blowout loss take away all Mir's motivation and make him fat again?
1. Garbage 2. Too long 3. Wasting time, it would be the most boring fight in history. 4. He will lose all motivation and get fat. I don't think Mir is the most mentally strong person in the world.
1) Funny thing, a poster on another site a long while ago, I think after either the Guida fight or the Stevenson fight, mentioned that Diaz should move up to 170 and build up some strength to be more effective. At the time a lot of guy laughed at him but it really is looking like a good career move for him. Same with Diego. A lot of MMA guys are fascinated with the science of weight cutting that they don't realize the possibilities of being effective at HIGHER weights. To be honest, Anderson Silva is another guy I like at a higher weight. He looks much more full at 205, he's quick and has shown probably his best punching power at that weight. 2) Yes, but I don't think the suspension was justified. He held on until the referee stopped the fight, which is what a fighter should do then immediately let go. I think that to avoid this, fighters should let go as soon as the tap out comes and the fight should be immediately over. 3) Of course, but he's still wasting his time, he doesn't really present GSP with any problems. GSP is far too athletic for him, and is a much better striker, and will simply destroy him on the feet again and take him down if he wants/needs to. 4) Probably. But really who cares? Frank Mir is done.
Diaz looks soft at 170, he's not Nick and Markham is garbage. He needs to stay at 155. Yeah Palhares held on too long. Let go when the guy taps. That's potentially career ending shit. You can't just break people's limbs when they tap. He's a dick for doing that. Jon Fitch is the most deserving guy at 170. Nobody outside of GSP is beating this guy. Give him the shot Dana you dick! Like Fitch said in an interview I read. "What do I have to do to get a title shot, Fly?" Mir is very mentally unstable, his obsession with Lesnar is really kind of scary. He should retire, he doesn't have the mental fortitude to take a loss like a man.
1. A mixture of both. I think the extra weight will help Diaz. He looked like he escaped from Auschwitz at 155. That being said, he's not a great fighter by any means. 2. Yes. I have no problem not letting go when you feel an opponant tap and waiting for the ref, but he held a little longer as the ref tried to pull him off. 3. I think he will. The talent pool at 170 is shallow and Fitch, while rarely exciting, seems to be the best fighter not named GSP in the division. 4. Mir is the last of his era of heavyweights, and as discussed elsewhere on this board, we've had a changing of the guard as the Big 4 (Lesnar,JDS,Cain,Carwin) have passed him on the food chain. I see a rematch with Nog up next for Mir, which makes sense. It would be a 'must win' for both fighters. If Mir wins, and Lesnar loses to Carwin, then the Mir\Lesnar rubber match is a natural. Mir isn't gonna be champ again, but he's still got some co-main event status fights left in him. TFK
