David Haye v John Ruiz, WBA World Heavyweight Title, Saturday 3rd March 2010, MEN Arena, England By Chris Baldwin, FightBeat UK correspondent The last five months have been something of a whirlwind for Britain’s latest world boxing champion, WBA heavyweight titlist David Haye. The former undisputed cruiserweight world champion has been propelled into super stardom in the UK courtesy of his win over the Russian giant Nicolay Valuev in Nuremburg last year and, somewhat predictably, Haye has certainly revelled in his new found place in the public eye. After a nomination for the BBC’s flagship ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ award, his face is a now regular fixture in the national newspapers, whilst his famed ability to talk rubbish for hours on end has seen him partake, with varying degrees of cringe-worthiness, in countless talk and topical panel shows. Now, after what seems like an absolute age, the time has come for Haye (23-1) to return from his meander into the world of celebrity and he is back doing what he unquestionably does best- boxing....... http://www.fightbeat.com/article_detail.php?AT=733
Cool article, plenty of backround information. I think you could add some styles analysis into it, meaning that quick-handed and well-timing fighters (Jones, Toney & Chagaev) have troubled Ruiz in the past (Haye fits in pretty nicely). Also the comparison between Mormeck and Ruiz could have gone further, since Mormeck's steady pressure did trouble Haye. All in all, good article
Normally I would have done, except I'm making a genuine effort to keep my previews to a reasonable length as opposed to the novella-esque attempts which I usually put up. MTF ::
I know your problem: when I was actively writing I usually filled four pages with my predictions. I think that since this is a fight site, you can shorten the stories of their backgrounds some and leave more space to analyzing the outcome. If you write for a newspaper or a site that somebody actually attends, then it is important to make the fighters familiar to the reader.
good article, but found it weird that it imply that Ruiz-Holy II was a stinker ( it was a very good fight imo, the only boring rounds were the 7th, 8th and 9th ) or that Ruiz fought an effective fight ( he was far less effective than in the first fight imo, and needed the big 10-7 round to win ). I doubt MTF actually saw the fight to be honest or he confused it with the 3rd fight And why isn't that fight shown on tape delay on the Hopkins-Jones II ppv. The undercard is a joke, Litzau-Juarez would be a good tv opener as it should be an action fight, but as a the ''co- main event , it's laughable. Still, I would consider buying it if they'd shown this fight. It's especially perplexing considering that both fight are promoted ( at least, co-promoted ) by G.
True. Also Ruiz-Valuev II was not that bad of a fight, everyone just expected it to be. I think it is that since Ruiz has ruined (or perhaps the term should be ruized) so many fights, people can't even remember the bit better ones. Also btw, it was Haye's left that buckled Valuev.
It is possible that I confused the two- it has been a long, long time since I watched either and have no intention of doing so again, frankly. Of the three Holy fights, Ruiz won only the second. How then can you say that his performance in that fight wasn't 'effective'? MTF :dunno:
I see David doesn't have the backing of HBO either. So much for his claim to be "More Popular" and "More Exciting".....he had to give away tickets for the Barrett fight, and now this. :shit:
....I'm a little surprised HBO didn't take it... Golden Boy have taken notice of Haye, so that's why i'm surprised that neither HBO or Showtime followed suit....but i guess any fight with 'Ruiz' in the title isn't an easy sell. I actually think this will be a good fight.
With any luck it will finish real soon. Haye talking about how his fucking legacy will begin with a win over a 38 year old John Ruiz. ::
David should win this handily....look for him to land a fast right hand, Ruiz will stagger momentarily, then the referee will step in, and the commentary team will treat us to screams about the POWER OF DAVID HAYE!!!!!...and "OH!! ONLY ONE MAN HAS DONE THAT TO RUIZ"!!! :: you have to love them, they are like a dog with a bone, theirs always is worth chewing more :shit:
