Via fightnews! After declaring he’s a big fan of Miguel Cotto’s career, the legendary trainer Emanuel Steward completed his first working session with the former WBO welterweight champion in Humacao, Puerto Rico, as a part of the physical and psychological job they’ll be heading up to defeat WBA super welterweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KOs) in the bout scheduled for June 5 at Yankee Stadium. The session lasted approximately two hours and included jumping rope, sparring and a short routine of weights. During the work of sparring, both Stewart and Cotto were comfortable working together, but also it became noticeable the level of demand that the coach will incorporate to his new trainee’s routine. Steward assured his mission will be to work on Miguel’s speed, and to retrieve those “brilliant moves†that have characterized him as a boxer, while Cotto (34-2, 27 KOs) said he’s feeling confident about Emanuel’s experience and ‘charisma’. As he emphasized, the new coach can contribute a lot, not only to him as a boxer, but also to his entire team. :bears:
Stewart and all the training in the world can't strengthen his chinny chin chin. Pacquiao would knock him out every day of the week.
Oh, and I see Manny is still a whore for the cash.......Manny would train Luis Resto if he got the right money.
If Cotto beats Foreman, and Williams beats Cintron... I think theres a good chance HBO might want Cotto-Williams. Thats a bad fight for Cotto at this point.
Here's a longer clip of Cotto's first day with Manny, which starts at the 1:10 mark of the video. http://wapa.tv/noticias/deportes/resumen-deportivo/20100408182627 Can't call it, but it looks almost like he clipped Manny on the chin with an uppercut at 1:27. If he did...then Manny has a beard. ::
Manny as a pro would be funny as hell to hear after a loss. "The fight went exactly as I expected. I knew he was the wrong opponent for me, I knew I shouldnt have taken the fight."
I asked the same question on another forum, and a couple of posters stated Manny always does this weird head snapping shit when working pads to show the effect the punches would have in a fight. ::
Cotto is looking good in the videos. He's finally working the mitts like he should have been doing a long time ago. It comes down to how much Cotto has left. He's only 29 but he has had a handful of wars. We shall see.
Explain to me how you came to the conclusion that Cotto has a weak chin. Don't bring up his fights @140. :nono: Cotto has fought with some of the biggest punchers in his division. 1) Bailey 2) Mosley 3. Judah 4) Pacman 5) Margarito Neither was able to knock Cotto out with a single punch.
That's because he works out. I'm really hoping steward can reignite Cotto's career. Not sure if a light middle weight fight is the right decision but the kid has balls I'll give him that much
Good for cotto. Shows he is trying to take this serious. This is what Tito should have done right after the DLH fight.
I talked with Manny about that at the Juan Diaz - Lakva Sim fight here in Houston, good question. He was the national bantamweight champion, and one of his family members got him a good paying job at Edison Electric as had he had a family to care for, and purses for a pro bantamweight starting out then were nil here. He beat NYSAC Welterweight Champion Hedgemon Lewis in the amateurs, very nice man is Mr. Steward.
