I was a fan of Lopez, but I have to go with Cuevas here by stoppage. Lopez had one helluva chin, but his style pretty much plays into Cuevas hands. The vice versa is also true, and of the two Lopez was more technically sound... but I think in the end Cuevas' murderous power wins out. Plus prior to Hearns wiping him out, Cuevas had a solid chin, and Lopez damn sure is no Hearns. The BEST version of Lopez(the one that beat Campas) would give Cuevas a tough fight, but get stopped late. Whilst the Lopez that lost to Page would get stopped by Pipino within 5.
^^^^Other than Hearns, how many other welters do you think could have taken him out that way? I don't think I could count more than maybe 3-4.
That doesn't mean he had an Iron Chin When I think of Iron chin, I think of guys like Hagler, LaPorte, Chavez... guys that it took monster shots to even hurt a little Cuevas was stopped six times
Cuevas had a horrible defense, but prior to the Hearns fight showed no signs of having a bad chin. Then again, Lopez hit harder then anything Cuevas BEAT, but the opposite is also true. Lopez took alot of shots also, and anyone who Cuevas could hit in his prime.... he took out. Which is why pre-Hearns I think he stops Lopez. Post-Hearns, Lopez definitely wins by KO.
has lopez ever had a noteworthy win besides beating up whatever was left of yori boy after tito smashed him?
Yory Boy was still very much a prime fighter when Lopez smashed him. It was the SAME Yory Boy that Tito beat. Lopez beat him in easier fashion then Tito and Vargas did.
that he did. and that was when campas started his quit trend as well. prime or not, beating up campas doesn't qualify as a win over a top fighter. at least cuevas had some sort of a consistent run during his welterweight reign before hearns nearly took his head off.
exactly Campas was never very good... he was one of the ultimate padded record fighters... and he had no heart
