    My bad.

I was thinking the "Motor City Cobra" when I read "Cinncinati Cobra".

Hut - I know you're a Duran fan, and how highly you rate him, but honestly I rate Duran's prime dominance and multi weight accomplishments higher than Charles', respectively. And in both cases, the string of losses of course marked a decline in ability, but Charles lost more than Duran, and in Duran's case it seemed more a case of motivation. Half the time he looked like he wasn't even trying, or had barely trained, when he got into his 30's.

I actually think Duran is the greatest fighter of all time. His record can hang with the best of them, and the late 70's Duran I would pick over any fighter in history, in a P4P sense. He was just an incredible, all round, fighting machine.

Why do you give an excuse to Duran for not training? If he lost because of motivation, stomach cramps or whatever, that is entirely up to him and his excuses don't make it any better.

I agree...He shouldn't be given any excuses for his laziness, that's his fault. Might as well equal it out and excuse Charles's defeats for his mind not being right from killing someone in the ring.

You are kidding. Moore not as good as Leonard? Please. Multiple victories over Moore trumps any single achievement in Duran's career --- one from three against Leonard (at Leonard's weight, to be fair) included.

Beyond Leonard, how many opponents on Duran's ledger match with someone like the brilliant Bivins (who, like Moore, was defeated repeatedly)? By most accounts, he should be 3-1 against Walcott at HW --- no mean feat for a former Middle (though Duran has his own remarkable list of wins well above LW), made nine defenses of the Heavyweight championship, & his first fight with Marciano, in losing competitively late in his career, is no less than what Duran did against Hagler.

You can add names like Joey Maxim, Lloyd Marsall, Charley Burley (again, almost impossibly to fathom, these guys fell more than once) & that is a smashing blow in the argument of resume against virtually any fighter in history, including Duran. One victory over Moore is quite reasonably arguable as equal to beating Leonard. Several wins, combined with the rest of these names, & the fact that he beat all of them more than once, well, I am sorry, but I cannot see how that can fail to eclipse Duran. I can't see anything on his resume --- as superb as it is --- which would go shoulder-to-shoulder with multiple wins against Moore, Bivins, Marshall, Maxim, Walcott, & on it goes. Charles took on Hall Of Famers at a rate which is hugely rare in history. Whatever you think of them head-to-head on a pound-for-pound scale (& it is completely up for grabs there, in my book), Charles has the beating of Duran for CV.

Then again, if you see a fighter as the best of all-time, I suppose not much of anything can persuade you.

Agreed. It could easily be argued that Charles has the greatest resume in the sports history.

It absolutely stands out against even those with great, great CV's --- Duran being one. Charles' has to be one of the top-five in history. You cannot emphasise enough how dramatic beating those kinds of guys over & over is. It is the handiwork of a fighter who is better than good, greater than great --- a boxer whose powers in the ring were simply fantastic!

Incredibly difficult choice but I favor Duran just a tiny bit because of the absolute and total annihlation of his comp at 135 and the unusual achievements of his post lightweight career... but its close... Ezzard's comp at 175 was just sensational and he had a very nice run as the heavyweight champ

close call, but I gice Duran the edge

F.Y.I., Duran DID NOT Beat a "Peak" Ray Leonard...Leonard's PEAK was Around the Time of Hearns Bout, Several Fights Later....REED Loooooooooves Mexican Wedding Shirt, but he's COMPLETELY BIASED when it Comes to Duran...He's Actually MORE Biased for Duran than he is for Manny Pac, which is Saying ALOT....

I agree with you, though I think it's fair to say, in the full context of his career, as bad as that was, he legitimately redeemed himself.
