For true boxing fans, the fight was sold the minute it was signed. It doesn't really require this 24/7 crap to be honest. This 24/7 thing is a brand new novelty to squeeze out a few extra buys. I don't even watch it ever.

I almost never watch HBO 24/7. Every now and then I'll catch a few minutes of it, since they air it constantly on all the HBO channels. But I watched about 20 minutes of the last PBF/SSM episode and I have to say that Floyd is just plain unlikeable. You can admire his record if you want to, you can respect the his athletic skill, or his ability to make money if you want... but I don't see how anybody can like the guy.

He incessantly spews his bile talk, and it's vapid and pointless. He doesn't even address any of the issues that are fed to him, he just goes off on a tangent that ends with "I am the man" or "I'm the guy" or "I'm boxing - boxing is nothing without me". If he is ever forced to stay on a topic for more than a minute, he typically gets angry and frustrated as he gets his ass verbally handed to him, such as in the radio interviews he did some months ago. When Shane pointed out to Floyd that when Floyd was younger he once came to Shane and said (I am greatly paraphrasing) something like "You're the greatest boxer, I want to be just like you.", Floyd's commentary was:

"Why I wanna be like Shane Mosley? I don't know Shane Mosley. Who the fuck Shane Mosley?"

Brilliant, as always. Floyd is only verbally gifted in sheer, streaming, nonsensical trash talk. I don't want to start any more crap over Pacman, but I am almost at a point of desperation hoping he signs to fight Floyd next. Every iota of boxing justice flowing through my veins hopes beyond hope that Manny is in reality clean, and that he shuts Floyd's mouth immediately following the SSM fight by appearing in the ring and agreeing to Floyd's testing conditions in front of the whole world. If Floyd gets by Shane, as he should, and cannot reach a deal with Pac... I really believe he may again retire for good, and then we will never, EVER hear the end of it from him. He will be 67 years old and mumbling (probably sounding just like dad) about how he is the greatest fighter ever, undefeated, and how he single handedly cleaned up the sport.

How can this be? What grave iniquity are we boxing fans paying for? Is there some sort of Jonah we can throw overboard and save ourselves? Maybe Mike Tyson?

Traditional or not, what that fan wants to see is a good fight inside the ropes, not outside of them.

I don't give a fuck what anybody says I'm a PBF fan and I'm also a SSM fan. I appreciate when a cat talks shit. Anybody that has grown up in the hood knows that there is a cat that will constantly talk shit. Hell when I played sports at the highest level I talked shit. Please don't get on the hoop court and get your squad beat. Are you serious! That's all dudes do on the hoop court is talk shit. It is what it is. You cats read way too much into this shit. It's funny that everyone has spoken about all the negative shit that occurred but no one has spoken about the positive shit that PBF did during this 24/7. I mean where in the book of being a professional athlete does it state that he has to donate his time and money. But yet PBF does it. Hell I bet he gives back way more then what is even spoken about by the media. And another thing I hope he does keep his money but if the dude happens to lose everything that shit don't have no bearing on my life. It's his money to squander. Like I said I grew up in the hood and we talk shit. Whether it's an act or not that's what we do. Now if you don't like it then do something about it. And hopefully for those that hate PBF perhaps SSM will be the due that will do it for you guys. Oh yeah the line where he said that SSM said that he only fights for money. And PBF said DUH I'm a prize fighter! That shit was funny. Cause it's the motherfucken truth. Motherfuckas don't play professional sports for free. They do that shit for the paper. If you think cats do the shit for the love I'm sorry you cats are sadly mistaken. I'll Holla 5000

There's a difference in doing a little shit talking to build up a fight or even to give yourself a more bankable personality, however when you can't shut that persona or shit talking off long enough to do an intelligent interview and occasionally show fans your true side it gets old really quick. As for him giving back to his community I actually find it hard to believe he does it all the time and that he does it any other time than when cameras are on him. That's mostly Floyds fault that I think that though because it'd fall right in line with the selfish money whoring type of a character that he so often portrays. Now I don't know Floyd enough to like or dislike him, but if ever there was a fighter who did make me not like them for their public comments and quotes it's him.

Every interview it's the same shit. He's the face of boxing. He made more than his last opponent. All roads lead to him. I mean how many different ways can the dude tell us he gets paid a lot of money to do what he does? ODLH used to be that guy and never bragged about it and he's probably a worse person in reality than Floyd makes himself seem to be.

I don't mind trash talk, but Floyd for the most part is unfunny with it.

His father and uncle are (often unintentionally) the funny ones.

When guys like Ali, Hamed, Toney etc talked shit, it was funny because most of the time it was original and genuinely humorous. When Floyd does it, it's just the same boring repetitive spiel about money and PPVs sold. Listen to his interviews, you literally cannot tell them apart because every.fucking.one. is pretty much the same. He is a fantastic fighter, and yes he has sold alot of PPVs due to his mouth, but it's not because he is a good trashtalker in the mould of Ali, it's because he is an annoying prick people want to see get beat.

Exactly, there are no soundbites from Floyd which you look back on and think "that shit was funny", none.

Yeah me too, and not just because I'm a Mayweather fan. (I'm a fan of Shane too)

Stylewise, Shane plays right into Floyd's hands IMO. I can actually see a shut out believe it or not.

If Shane wins I'll be SHOCKED.

Honestly the only way I see Shane winning is by freak one punch KO or a DQ or an injury. But in terms of the mechanics of the fight, Floyd does everything that Shane does, just as well or better. And Shane's power advantage (which is his only advantage) is much less than people think....

More than a few things here I disagree with...

First, I competed at a high level and didn't talk shit. In fact, I LOVED getting on the court or whatever against guys who did. The more they talked, the more determined I was to shut their asses up then walk away and smirk at them. At the end of the day all that matters is performance. Period.

Secondly, what Shane meant about Floyd only fighting for money pertains to precisely what I said before regarding Floyd's sensitivity when receiving any criticism regarding his record and who he's ducked over the years. Money comes and goes (and trust me, Floyd's WILL go)...legacy follows you to the grave and beyond.

Don't be confused, fighters fight for pride. Otherwise how can you explain Hopkins dragging out a half dead Roy Jones after all these years damn well knowing he could have fought a better version of Jones years earlier.

That's what I believe Shane was getting at...yes, it's easy to be taken by Floyd's idiotic comments like the quip about Shane having a Jheri curl. I can see some idiots laughing at that but honestly any Black person who laughs at the shit is suspect in my book. It's foolishness. You have a BALD GUY talking about another black man's hair. That's some ignorant shit.

Floyd's a caricature which is sad and when his ass is flat broke it'll be karma catching up with him.

Lastly...regarding the "good" he does. Another bit of bullshit. here's a guy who has leins for millions of dollars to Vegas jewelers...how much does his "foundation" raise? All I saw was a room full of family members/fools in clown suits (Think the scene in "Malcolm X" when Denzel meets Delroy Lindo and they get on him about the clown suit he had on). That's what I saw.

I think most here and everywhere are rooting for Mosley to win for sure.

I respect Floyd as a fighter no doubt. He's fantastic. I cannot deny that. He has the talent to be mentioned with some of the all time greats, but he hasn't fought the competition and he doesn't have the MENTALITY that some of them had. He's not like a Sugar Ray Leonard who would go beyond just getting a win. Leonard wanted to do something spectacular and for the most part he would do it everytime.

Floyd on the other hand is content to allow guys who don't belong in the ring with him last the distance. His performances against De La Hoya, Baldomir, and others are just painful to watch. A guy of his standards that talks THAT MUCH SHIT only to show up and fight to avoid getting hurt is gonna be disliked, sorry.

Be that as it may, I expect him to win via decision. It'll be boring and unspectacular and then we'll hear Floyd say he doesn't get the respect he deserves.

The more I think about it, the more I want Pacquiao to shut this guy's mouth once and for all.

Uhmm....no. A guy who barely scrapes through a shot inactive part-time Oscar De La Hoya with a Split Decision is not somebody who should ever be mentioned along the all time greats.
First off, Fraudweather has never been involved in an epic fight. He has never fought a truly elite level fighter in their primes at their best and at their real weightclass.
He has handpicked his competition and has been fighting at catch weights against smaller fighters coming up not to mention he has not even cleaned out any division.
And the only solid fighters he's been fighting are at the tail ends of their careers going into their 40s.
Sorry, but Fraudweather will never be remembered as a great fighter long after he's vanished from the sport of boxing.
Selling a million PPVs won't hide the facts. The facts are he didn't want to fight the best at their best. He wanted everything on his own terms and with limited risk.
Not the stuff legends are made of. You can respect his boxing talent but the truth is he is a defensive boxer by design. Not a warrior who went in and gave it his all like Tyson, Holyfield, Trinidad, etc all did.
Every fighter at one point had an epic battle which historians and fans remember them by. Even the prettiest boy in boxing Oscar De La Hoya went in and put his face out there, not worried about his good looks, and fought his ass off against the likes of Mosley, Vargas, Coley, Sturm, Quartey, etc with a kill or be killed mentality.
Even Lennox Lewis, a defensive boxer, went out there and put his blood on the line against the likes of Mercer, Vitali, Briggs, etc.
There is nothing to remember Fraudweather by other than his back foot, shoulder-rolling, tip tap, pussy style of boxing.
There is no replay value with the majority of Fraudweather's fights. No epic battles, no wars, no time where he fought for his life, nothing!
He avoided such opposition so he wouldn't need to take such risks.

some of this is true, some is fantasy.

Even the most dedicated Floyd haters (such as myself) give him credit until just after the second Castillo fight. There's no problems with his resume up until that point...Manfredy, Hernandez (Carlos and Genaro), Jesus Chavez and Corrales wasn't a bad run at Jr. Lightweight. Yes, he didn't get to Casamayor and Freitas but I don't fault him for that. That was a Showtime vs HBO thing. Plus...Floyd openly campaigned for a fight with Hamed at 128.

Corrales and Castillo were in their primes. Castillo was widely accepted as the best lightweight after his fights with Stevie Johnston and how he bludegeons Cesar Bazan.

Everything AFTER the Castillo fights are open to criticism...we're what...7 or 8 years past that?

Do you mean guys who PACQUAIO destroyed? Hatton at his BEST weight in 2 rounds with the best highlight KO of recent memory? Hatton had no business at 147. Collazo fight showed us that.

De la Hoya took a beating from Pacquaio.

Mosley? Will see on May's 1st.

The fight went the way it did because of Floyd's "mentality".

He doesn't have the mentality to take the necessary risks to win a fight in spectacular fashion. With Oscar, he fought like he didn't wanna get hurt so he would just lay on the ropes, cover up and let De La Hoya steal rounds.

I think he has more than enough talent to have won that fight in dominating fashion but he doesn't take risks. He'd rather run and not take the chance of getting hit.

I think Floyd has similar abilities that the likes of Leonard, Robinson, and Ali had but he doesn't have mind set they did. They went out there and put on a show for the crowd. They went out there to win fights in spectacular fashion. Even if it meant that they would get bruised, cut, possibly knocked down at least once. Hell, if it meant taking the risk of getting KO'd, they still went out and went beyond the victory.

Floyd won't do that. And thats why despite his talents, he'll never be mentioned with the all time greats.

Not to mention the fact that he wouldn't fight the likes of Cotto, Margarito, Williams, Pacquiao, and its doubtful he'd ever fight a guy like Martinez.

The chance for Floyd to elevate himself to the level a fighter of his talents has is there and has been there for quite a long time. But because he's always safety first and unwilling to put himself in any danger, he'll never be mentioned with those guys.

But he does have the same God given ability those guys had. He just won't use it to the best.

    agreed.

im naturally super competitive and i love playing basketball, tennis, boxing, wrestling, etc. against people who think they are the shit. always brings out the best in me. then if they beat me they have the right to talk trash.

and its true bout the money. roberto duran said it best. 99% of fighters say they fight for money. 1% of them lie. noone puts their health at risk for fun.

Mosley is 39 years old and inactive for 16 months. No matter how it shakes out it's safe to say he's not better at 39 than 29.

Mosley throws hard and winds his shots up. He might land at will with someone coming at him but he can't do that with Floyd. I think that is why he using those swimming like exercise round blue things. Perhaps he could work on TOUCHING Floyd then change up and alternate with power shots using his REACH advantage.

I just don't want to say Mosley is OLD. Sure he is coming off a long LAYOFF and has been to basically two training camps but he is a LIVE underdog. I don't think he is 4 to 1 as the current odds have him at.

Correct according to the "letter of the law"...but Muzseman...MUZSEMAN...

You're my e-homie and all....you know that the three mentioned DO QUALIFY according to the "spirit of the law".

    Which is:

    That they were legitimate challenges!

Oscar was still good, evidenced by his total annihilation of Mayorga in six one-sided rounds in his previous fight.....the same Mayorga who years later would give Shane mosley (destroyer of Margarito) all he could handle for 12 rounds. Oscar was naturally bigger than Floyd, taller, Rangier, more powerful and with arguably equal handspeed. It was seen as a Good Big'un vs Good liil'un matchup. And you know how they usually go.....

Hatton was the undefeated jnr Welterweight champion moving up only 7 pounds. He started out in his career 10 pounds heavier than Floyd started his career. So Hatton was hardly the smaller man. Hatton stopped the previously dominant Tzsyu and had stoppped Castillo in four rounds. Hatton had proven himself a legitimate P4pder.

Mosley? Stopped Margarito in his last fight. Same Margarito who stopped Cotto and Cintron.

So....be reasonable homie and leave the nonsense for the posters that don't have your e-stature.

According to "the spirit of the law"...Oscar, Shane and Hatton MORE THAN QUALIFY!! :kidcool:

Mosley IS old, but not your average 38 year old fighter, as he's still a very formidable fighter. Everyone ages differently, and Mosley is coming off one of the biggest wins of his career.

I'm not really sure what to make of his layoff. Some fighters don't perform well after layoffs (Page against Lewis, Leonard against Howard), while others do (Quartey against De La Hoya, De La Hoya against Vargas, Vitali against Peter).

He doesn't like to risk it because he's scared to death that he might get KTFO. He doesn't really believe he's as good as his fanatics think he is. He's highly overrated skill wise.
The guy didn't even clearly beat a shot old inactive Oscar De La Hoya. A De La Hoya who didn't even fight to 1/3 of the ability of his prime. A De La Hoya who didn't even throw a jab. That same De La Hoya took a f*cking peak level Fraudweather to a split decision.
You don't even want to imagine what kind of hell the 1999 Oscar would've given this overrated joke Fraudweather. The most overrated clown in boxing history.

I think we're seeing much the same result, but for different reasons. For me, it is predominantly an issue of age. Mosley isn't half the man he was ten years ago. His current position as division champion (as I prefer the lineage, myself) is (partly) testimony to his staying power, but ten or so years ago, this would have been a match.

Today, I can't see it. Mayweather, 8-4, 116-112, IMO. He'll probably fight a hair more conservative than he needed to, in the end.
