Yep, this is coming from the guy that thought Pacman - Valero would basically be a pick em fight ::

 

I'm very sad about Valero's passing. Would have loved to see him develop and eventually have that superfight with Pacman.

 

Among the sport's hardcore base, he will (or should) be remembered as a waste of talent and a piece of shit.

Once the ESPN clips die down (most likely in a day or two, if even that long), he won't remembered at all by casual fans other than in the form of a question as Dubblechin suggested.

 

He was a tremendous puncher whose best wins were probably beating an ancient Pituloa and DeMarco. Oh yeah, and he was a total scumbag.

I was a big Valero fan and would've bet on him against anyone, aside from Pac, at 135-40...too bad his resume ended so thin

 

DeMarco landed a lot of nice shots on him, he just didn't have the power to hurt a coked out Valero. Valero wouldn't of beaten any of the top guys with that chin in the air fighting posture he had.

 

He was definitely over hyped. I don't even see how he looked all that amazing against a very limited DeMarco. Valero would of been bombed out early against anybody with good technique and decent power.

 

This is the same point i repeatedly raised right up to the DeMarco fight, but, whilst his chin was still held high, he was putting a lot more thought into his attacks than i had seen before....smartly coming in-and-out rather than fighting with the reckless abandon that was apparent before.

I'm not by any means suggesting he became a defensive genius over-night, but it did make me re-assess his chances against higher level opponents. If, say, he had died before the DeMarco fight, i'd be a lot more dismissive of the heights he would have potentially gone on to reach.

 

It's hard to gauge how good Valero was. Fuck his KO record. I"ve seen plenty of padded records in the past. That shit never impressed me.

The thing aboug Valero is that people wondered how he would have fared against the best at 135-140 but I think Arum signed him to eventually fight Pacquiao. So he was not gonna really develop a carreer berore that.

It reminds me when Arum wanted David Diaz to fight Pacquiao at 135. Valero was basically an exciting brawler to make a good fight with Pacquiao.

To me the best win for Valero was the tittle he won at 130 he beat Mosquera from Panama in his hometown in a crazy environment. Mosquera wasn't elite but he was pretty good and that to me was his best win.

So to me Valero was a decent brawler with a padded record who I had no interest in seeing him against Pacquiao.

 

He would knocked the shit out of Khan.

 

I was really looking forward to see how Valero's career would unfold. He had weaknesses for sure but he had other attributes that made him a very intriging fighter. Since his career stopped so early, it's hard to gauge how good it would have been but I think it's rather obvious that Valero was about to be involved in some very good fights. His style was made for it.

It's a damn shame he was such a crazy mf.

 

I wish he'd have stayed away from high profile fights like in his other 27 fights. I'd heard about the guy forever and never saw him until the DeMarco fight. That night I became a fan, and now we have this.

 

Another legacy defining effort, I'm sure you will agree...

it was what it was. his best win. to me his legacy was defined when he was KOd by ponce deleon. with one shot no less

 

mosquera looked awesome when i saw him beat up 3k battery on the undercard of toney/ruiz (i think) in ny. i mean yea, he was virtually a nobody coming into that fight, but i believe he only had one loss at the time and yosdanan was on a roll with string of wins over quality opponents including lakva sim and steve forbes. i'm not sure if it was televised or not, but i have a feeling that not too many folks have even seen this guy fight but are just going off by his record.

either way, aside from taking a knee in round 2 or 3, valero completely dominated that fight in Panama and it was also his first fight that actually lasted more than 2 rounds. he also nearly took him out in the first round.

 

Easy to say now it can't be proven. Valero was shit.
