Why is everybody complaining that UFC fighters are underpaid ?

Shane Carwin still works a full time job in engineering.

 

They can only fight who there boss has under contract. Lets call a spade a spade. If you wanna trash boxing for one thing then trash MMA for the same thing. Don't hate on boxing then blow off MMA for the same thing.

 

I'm not hating on anything, I'm just saying I prefer the UFC's matchmaking over the fighters picking their own fights.

 

Dana White himself says he prefers the fighters to pick their opponents.

right. the guys owning the franchises should be making all the money, not the actual entertainers you are paying to see perform! great post!

 

the problem with boxing is not the fact that there is a fair market where athletes can actually negotiate a reasonable cut of the profits. the problem is the ones cutting the checks are fucking up, bidding against themselves and making poor decisions on what fights to spend on.

People pay for the brand, not the individual performers.

 

They should, I'd pay to watch me.

 

People pay based on who is fighting on the card. That's why UFC 100 featuring Lesnar and Mir and GSP, etc doubled the buyrate of that crappy UFC 109 ppv.
People aren't buying to see the brand. If people paid based on the brand, then UFC could just put a bunch of drunk old farts in the octagon and still get a million buys.::

You didn't hurt anyone's feelings because you are irrelevant. When I said I know a lot more than you, that wasn't really saying much. The truth is I know a fucking ton about the UFC, more than I care to actually.

 

to me, it seems like guys that are getting paid (i.e, lidell, couture, penn, st. pierre, jackson) are making profits from their endoresment deals w/ clothing line and energy drinks. and to get those sort of gigs, you have to be a high profile fighter and that appears to be a pretty difficult thing to accomplish.

i guess guys like machida and silva also profit from affiliating themselves w/ mma gyms throughout.

it's definitely not a sport where you can make a consistent living off of.

 

100k per fight is not enough to live off of? Really, my parents make about 60k a year and somehow I manage to eat.

Most of these guys make money off sponsors anyway and they also fight usually 4x per year. So even a mid-tier guy will be making around 80k per year in base salary. Meaning they get paid higher with bonuses and for putting "Condom Depot" on their shorts.
