I had to draw a line somewhere (needless to say, I of all people thought long & hard before resigning him to omission!). He's a great, great fighter, & if this were a ten-man Poll, he'd be on it. It was close.

    agree

I think if Sanchez had lived and if Ruben had cut out all the partying, they'd be nipping at his heels

    agree completely

he's no better than 50/50 against Pedroza, and I have often thought that Pedroza's dirtiness would have gotten him off his game and caused him to lose

    Fair enough mate.

Anyway, I pick Chavez. And as others have said, for me it isn't really that close.

Chavez is the greatest, but he's also the cliche. People say Chavez without even thinking..."El grand campion del Mexico" or however you say it in Spanish.

Morales beat Barrera and Pacquiao. Those are arguably better wins than any two wins on Chavez' resume if you think about it.

But as i said, I agree with teh consensus that Chavez is numero uno...I was a fan of his style of fighting (precision consistent ecomomical aggression) and you have to give a man props for an 86+ fight unbeaten streak.

I picked Morales. His win over Pac is better than any Chavez win.

Agreed that his win over Pacquiao is better than any on Chavez' resume, but the losing record in his two defining trilogies works against him.

MAB was Erik's daddy so it's hard for me to suggest Morales is the greatest mexican of all time, when he wasn't even clearly the best mexican in his weight class while he was active.

I don't agree. I had Morales winning the first and second fights.

I'm sorry sly, but you just can't score that first fight for Morales. That was an awful, awful decision. The rematch was close.

1 and 3 were clear MAB wins.

3 was a clear Barrera win, the second was a clear Morales win, the first could have gone either way. Barrera had the better moments, mounting some eye catching attacks, Morales was more consistent and overall landed more punches.

I never understand why some people think the first fight was a clear Barrera victory, it was VERY close, and Erik actually landed punches with more consistency over 12 rounds.

And who can blame him for losing a trilogy to Pacman, one of the best fighters ever?

    Morales > Chavez.

??? Seriously? The second I could see a case for....but Barrera won the first by about 4 or 5 on my card. Wasn't even contentious, in my book.

Yeah, it wasn't close. I don't care to debate it to be honest.

Either way, I'm comfortable knowing that MAB clearly won two of three and officially won two of three. When all was said and done, MAB got the better of Morales.

Exactly. Just as I have Castillo winning the first PBF fight. They never had a rubber match though. I think PBF preferred not to.

Just like the 2nd DLH Mosley fight...the way you scored certain rounds is the way you scored the fight.

IN Morals-MAB 1....the way someone scored round 5 (which was a microcosm of the fight) is usually the way they scored the entire fight. I had Morales winning that round...many gave it to barrera, because of the way MAB came back and staggered Morales at the end of teh round. I gave it to Morales because he controlled the first 2 minutes cleanly.

And that was the pattern of the fight. Morales outworking Barrera, Marco perhaps causing the most hurt. I scored for who landed the most leather.

    Just like in DLH-Mosley 2

The way a person scored round ONE is the way they scored the fight. I gave it to Oscar..thinking he outboxed Shane..some (like Muzse) gave it to Mosley saying Shane scored teh heavier punches.

I had Morales winning the first fight even conceding the KD in the 12th round.

I agree completely. That was the story of the fight, Erik's consistency Vs Barrera's eye catching attacks, hurting Morales etc.

I scored for Erik's consistency, like you say, he won the first 2 minutes of that round, and it was the same story for many other rounds. I don't go for spurt fighters like Barrera, I go for the guy who controlled most of the action and landed the most punches.

hard to say who the best is.

But I think JMM is better than MAB, Morales and Lopez.

Lopez is similar in talent to JMM but his carreer is very overrated. The guy barely took risks and had good competition around him.
