“As a matter of fact, there’s only a few guys I like to watch in mixed martial arts, to learn, and he’s one of them. I like to watch Jake Shields, Anderson Silva, Mauricio Shogun, Lyoto Machida. I like to watch also Fedor and Sakuraba back in the day, the Gracies, but there are few other guys that I like watching for my own personal learning.â€￾

“Shields is amazing. He’s of course the guy to beat right now. He’s fighting at 185 lbs right now, and he’s dominating and beating everyone at 185, and he’s (a natural) 170 lbs fighter. He’s not only an amazing fighter, he’s an amazing jiu-jitsu fighter. As a proud champion, I want to fight the best and Jake Shields is the best right now.â€￾

    :lol::lol:

This would be such a shit, boring fight, between two lay and pray nerds. GSP wins by laying and praying a bit more.

Did you see Shields and Dana White entangled in a lover's embrace last night? Shields will be in the UFC, but I find it hard to see him going back down to 170.

This fight would be rough to watch.

It definately could be. But...If GSP realizes the huge advantage he would have on his feet and his ability to keep from taken down, he could pick Shields apart with strikes.

Agreed. I'm waiting for the Shields bandwagon to come to a screeching halt when he fights someone who will simply stuff his take downs and exploit his comically bad stand-up.

Yeah, I can't wait for him to fight an Olympic caliber wrestler who will stuff his takedowns. Oh, wait.....

A few things about that. Henderson is 39, and is supposedly having back problems. Hendo's gas tank was absolute garbage that night, for whatever reason. Regardless of that, a majority of Shields take' downs were single legs. Henderson is a greco-roman wrestler which forbids grabbing below the waist for take downs and td defense.

REED Seems to B in the Minority, but he's Looking @ GSP vs. Shields from an IMPORTANCE Aspect...Can Anyone DENY that this is a MEANINGFUL Fight????....If Not, then the Bout Should B APPLAUDED, Even if it Doesn't End Up Being the Most Fan-Friendly MMA Bout Ever....

Those are all great points/excuses, but when have you ever seen Henderson taken down so easily?

The bottom line is Shields is always going to be the underdog yet he just keeps beating people. When he moved up to fight Lawler, there was no way his shitty stand up would keep him in the fight. Then Strikeforce brings in Henderson who was too big, too strong and well-rounded for Shields.

Hell, even Paul Daley was knocking everyone out and was supposed to run through Shields.

Somehow Shields dominated each guy. All I'm saying is I wouldn't count him out so quickly. Shields is tough as nails and a very talented guy.

Not alone at all Reed. There isn't a guy on the planet that can fight at 170 more deserving of a shot at GSP.

And I am also not of the mindset that it will be a boring fight. I think it will interesting and a dog fight. Both guys have relatively similar skill sets with GSP having an edge in a couple of areas and Shields having his advantages.

That being said, if you're a viewer immediately bored when a fight hits the ground, then it won't be your cup of tea.

Don't get me wrong, I definitely think Shields is a good fighter. However, his awful stand-up will get him into trouble.

Well, maybe Shield's reputation for having terrible stand up will convince GSP to keep it standing. It certainly won't be boring if that happens.

I like this fight. I think GSP keeps it standing for a couple rounds and picks shields apart. GSP by tko.

Dana will go balls out to land Shields. He wants this fight bad.

I think it COULD be a good fight. I think his style of stand up makes shooting in for the takedown difficult to do. So he might be able to keep it standing where he would definitely take GSP apart.

But even on his back Diaz wouldn't be dead like so many guys against GSP.

I'm not sure he could beat GSP but I think it's one of the best match ups on paper when comparing styles.

It's definately a possibility, but it will NEVER happen. Dana was convinced that he made the right decision on Diaz 2 weekends ago.

GSP would beat both Diaz brothers at the same time.

My thoughts exactly Trplsec, Diaz has the stand up battle in the bag with GSP. Something tells me though, GSP gets the takedown and pounds him out. Diaz is tough though so it may be 5 rounds of takedowns and pounding.

GSP would have no trouble outwrestling Diaz. He wouldn't even have that much trouble standing.

GSP has never been a bad striker. In fact he has a striking base. That's why it's so easy for him to take fighters down, he doesn't have to worry about shooting 5 seconds into the round.

I didn't say GSP had bad striking. I said it was FALSE to say that GSP wouldn't have any trouble with Diaz while standing.

If GSP decides to forget about takedowns and only box with Diaz, GSP will have all he can handle.

He'd lose. I mean he wouldn't have any trouble striking long enough for him to take him down as seen in the Alves and Penn fights.
