    Simply meaning, he's not a guy who has to shoot for a takedown at first opportunity like a Shields. He can go 2-3 minutes spurts striking at any time during the 25 minutes, then shoot.

    He was able to outland Alves and Penn in standing strikes using this strategy. He for all intense and purposes, got the better of the standup in both fights.

    In both fights over 80% of the 25 minutes was spent on the ground. So it's really pointless.

    Again, if he decides to forget take downs and only strike with Diaz, he will get beat.
