And yet I'd sit through Sunshine a million times over before I'd watch that shitfest Pandorum again. The monsters were stupid, the movie was stupid, and really that was the movie where nothing was happening.

Sunshine was more of a drama than an action sci-fi film. It had a much better story and better dialogue for sure and it at least looks like a big time production. The only bad thing was how they fucked up the ending.

God I can't get over how bad Pandorum was. Definitely the worst sci-fi I've seen in a while.

Easy 10/10---great movie! The first 5 minutes really set the tone with that epic speech! It was great all the way through. This General Patton was quite a character.:cheer:

I watched Redux first and thought, fuck, this movie is too damn long with unnecessary scenes that slow the movie down.

I then saw the original because people say it was way better than Redux. I agree.

Damn, it sucks that you saw the Redux first. I'm glad I saw the original first because then I could wipe out the thought of Colonel Kilgore being such a bitch over a surfboard. That totally ruined the Redux for me. The Playboy playmates scene was too farfetched and ruined the tragic feel of the movie. I could live with the French army scenes but it went on for way too long.

Extract - Pretty good film by Mike Judge of idiocracy/Office Space, honestly not as good as either possibly but a decent timefiller.

Book of Eli - utter crap, monotonous and extremely stupid, at time even hard to watch for that reason..plus Denzel should really stop making these movies, its like watching those Clint Eastwood movies from the 90s where the younger female lead would fall for his crinkly charms..implausible and egotistic

Shutter Island - what a disappointment, to slow, to predictable.

I'm a big fan of DiCaprio but when you read articles about him being the new DeNiro it just makes me laugh.

The movies he has produced with Scorsese are shit in comparison...

RED CLIFF (Parts 1 & II) Now this is a truly great movie. John Woo's best film and one of the most beautifull epic films rver done in Asia. This just political/war film with elements of drama, comedy, and lots lots of action. All the John Woo trademarks are here from his typical climatic mexican standoff to the rival friends, the white dove, etc. Contrary to other Woo films this one has a great plot and you don't mind that that it takes over four hours to tell the story. I loved it. 10/10

An innocent timid young man is slowly corrupted by his friend (played brilliantly by Collin Firth) and somehow winds up trading his soul for eternal youthfulness. His true age is revealed only through a painting of himself. As he gives himself in to more of lifes pleasures (women, drugs, even murder) he slowly realizes that his gift is little more than a curse that he cannot reverse. 7/10

Not a bad movie fairly entertaining, with nice sex scenes but nothing terribly stands out here. Everything was top notch, the acting, production, sets. It all looks like a big time Hollywood production. The only negative I have is it's not the kind of movie that you'd regret not seeing. Not really worth a rental IMO but if it comes on HBO it's worth sitting through.

    AN EDUCATION - 7.5/10

    GENRE - DRAMA

PREMISE - A school girl in London sets her sights on getting into Oxford. That is until she meets and is seduced by an older man. She is then introduced to a life of fun that she's never experienced. She begins to question the point of her past overly educated boring life and seriously contemplating quitting school.

CRITIQUE - This was a pretty good drama. Nothing too great but I enjoyed it. Some very good acting all around.

Temple Grandin - Autistic girl slaughters cows.................humanely.

HBO movie I thought would be an unbearably boring chore, but I was pleasantly surprised. Entertaining and even funny at many points. Claire Danes probably gets an Emmy nod for this.

    8/10

The Stoning of Soraya M This powerful drama tells the true story of an inocent iranian woman who is accussed of adultery by his hateful husband who just wants to get rid of her in order to marry a pretty 14 year old girl. Great performance by Shoreh Aghdashloo as the woman's aunt and her only sole defender. Jim Caviezel has little to do in his cameo role even though is vital to the plot. The climatic execution sequence has some of the most cruel images ever put on film. Eye opening to the injustices committed against women in muslim countries like Iran or Taliban dominated Afghanistan. This is a movie that stays long with you after watching it. Skip any munchies while watching this film. Great movie. Highly recommended if you don't mind subtitles. 9/10

I watched it after your review and I totally agree on all counts. Great movie. Terrible story. A few years ago I came across video footage of actual stonings. The movie does it justice.

It truly puts "Let he without sin, cast the first stone" in a whole new light. Great find.

    BLACK DYNAMITE - 6.5/10

    GENRE - COMEDY/ACTION

PREMISE - After his younger brother is killed in a foiled under cover op, ex CIA agent Black Dynamite (Michael Jai White) goes looking for for the killers to enact his own brand of kung fu revenge. With the help of a few friends he goes on an ass kicking spree that would make Black Belt Jones proud.

CRITIQUE - This was a pretty good movie filmed in a 70's blaxploitation style. It was a comedy spoof in the vein of I'm Gonna Get You Sucka although not quite as funny. Still there were plenty of laugh out loud moments that make this one worthy of a rental IMO. Even the Kung Fu kept things interesting. Not every joke worked and it suffered from an obviously simple story but it was still a pretty good movie.

FROM PARIS WITH LOVE - 7/10
    [IMG]
    GENRE - ACTION

PREMISE - A diplomatic aid level agent (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) gets temporarily teamed up with a tough as nails hardcore killing machine street agent (Travolta) for a short notice mission. As the bullets fly and the bad guys die the diplomatic agent continues to clash with the street agents style only to constantly learn something for nearly every questionable tactic he complains about.

CRITIQUE - This was a good action movie and I liked it. Don't take it too seriously and you'll enjoy it. Travolta's good as the smack talking bullet proof agent. The action is swift and often and the story isn't bad either. The dialogue was pretty good and the acting wasn't terrible. For what it was--a pure action entertainment flick--it delivered the goods.

    THE CRAZIES - 7.5/10
    [IMG]
    GENRE - HORROR

PREMISE - A very small town becomes infected with a virus that slowly turns it's victim into a psychopathic killer. The longer one is infected the crazier they become. The local sheriff after slowly putting together exactly what is happening attempts to get himself and his wife out of the town. Another big problem is the military if fully aware of the problem and has quarantined the town. So now the sherriff must avoid the crazies and the military.

CRITIQUE - This is the rare good horror flick. Although it has similar themes to movies like 28 days later I feel it's better and actually goes it's own way. The violence is pretty strong, and the suspense comes quite often as you'll find a person sitting alone then suddenly get a shot of someone in the room with them just out of their view. It actually amazed me how often this happened yet the people still never seemed to learn to clear a room/house/store before just relaxing and having a chat. Everything here is top notch, the direction, scenery, dialogue and even the acting dispite any high profile actors.

Yep. He's a pretty good actor. I didn't like him as Hitman though. I guess because I thought Jason Statham should have been Hitman.

Then I guarantee you'll like him in this one. He was cool as a fan in this one, a pretty laid back cool demeanor that he pulls off effortlessly.

I had no idea that was him. Too bad you don't like him in Hitman because there's a rumor they're making a sequel with him in it again. Incidentally I thought that Hitman was played by Mark Dacascos the guy from Only The Strong.
