NB-Please refrain from "I told you so" comments in this thread.

We can be quite funny here at Fightbeat.

We can say certain things pre-fight with 100% confidence, and then no matter how the actual fight contradicts what we said, we'll find some wiggle-room and manage to convince ourselves & attempt to convince others that our oh-so confident pre-fight assertions were still spot-on when you take into account....

I saw it with the Kessler fight just last week, for instance. Some were saying he lacked grit. He showed grit, but according to some, it still proved nothing when you take into account....

The PBF-SSM fight played out to an extent how I expected it to, but it also started to shift my thinking towards Floyd.

I thought it was obvious that PBF would win a clear UD. I even predicted that if it wasn't for his tendency to fight "not to lose" he could win via TKO.

-I was correct to an extent, I reckon if he had killer instinct (which he hasn't), he could have stopped SSM tonight, but I was mistaken in other ways.

Having had time to reflect. PBF showed HEART, GRIT, DETERMINATION, and he FOUGHT Mosley. He didn't fight "not to lose" at all.

I thought that PBF would potshot. He didn't, he stood toe to toe with a guy that was supposed to be stronger.
I thought that Mosley would always be trying to win, but to the end he was trying to survive. PBF TOOK MOSLEYS HEART. That I didn't see coming.

He was also very strong, looked stronger than Shane. That I didn't expect.

All in all, as much as the result went as expected, the fight itself, has caused a shift in my attitude towards PBF.
I've always considered him a great talent, but not a great fighter.
His performance against Mosley has started to make me re-think.

I learned that Shane is poop without his juice. And I also learned that PBF's record should have an asterick by it: *he beat Mosley without his juice.

No way does PBF beat the juiced up Mosley that beat ODH, Margarito and Vargas.

Anything to not give Mayweather any sort of credit...

I learned that there is NO fucking way Pacquiao is beating Mayweather....

I always knew that Mayweather was stronger than most gave him credit for (I saw glimpses of that Strength in fights with Castillo and Corrales) but what i didn't know until last night was that he's stronger than Shane Mosley!! That was a shock.

I just rewatched the infamous 2nd round again and guess what....the reason why Shane didn't continue to press his advantage after hurting mayweather was because although Floyd was still shaken up...he as clear headed and strong enough to actually stun shane with a counter right hand and left hook and then forced Shane back to the ropes.
So Shane didn't actually let Floyd off the hook....Floyd fought his way out of problem and outmuscled Shane.

So now we all know that Floyd isn't just a fast slick master boxer. he's also a hard son of a bitch!

Also..even though he hasn't traditionally used it much..when he chooses to depend on it Mayweather has an all time great jab. His jab was the primary reason for Shane's demise...

I actually didn't feel the jab was the primary offensive weapon that exploited Shane last night. Not in the way it won the fight for Cotto. It seemed Floyd preferred to catch Shane with overhand rights and just pot shot him with big punches rather than set up with the jab. It was like he didn't feel he needed to use the jab so he didn't.

That parts true. The same thing will go for Manny. If Manny gets off the juice first Floyd would embarrass him then JMM will probably knock him out.

I doubt I would really want to. It kind of sucked in that Shane didn't put up much more of a fight than JMM.

i was a bit surprised by mayweather's size. he actually looked bigger than mosley, especially when floyd became the aggressor and had begun walking mosley down.

a mayweather win was expected, but it changed my mind that he's not just a very good welterweight. he's a great welterweight.

The fight showed me pacquiao has an even greater chance of stopping mayweather jr than I previously suspected

Actually last night didn't change my perspective on a matchup against Pacman either way. I've always felt Manny is going to walk right through Floyd and destroy him just like he did Cotto and Hatton.

Neil, it seems like you weren't too impressed with Floyd this past Saturday? I thought he looked good although Shane wasn't exactly in his best form. I'm split on who takes Floyd/Pacman. But I do know I'm gonna have to order this one. What did you see in Floyd that you feel gives Pacman a chance to win? How can Pacman get through Floyd's defense?

But Manny had all sorts of trouble against Marquez. And Floyd is obviously superior to Marquez. So how can Pacman simply bull through a fighter with the technical skill, speed and intelligence of Floyd?

if pacquaio hurts mayweather jr like that, he has the ability to follow up. he is much faster and with a more versatile attack than mosley. then again mayweather jr will be using a completely different strategy against pacquaio.

And you know nothing about tact or how to talk to fellow posters with some semblance of respect. It's the reason you get owned day after day trying to be a keyboard warrior or something. If you don't have the intelligence to argue something then just read the thread and mutter your little insults about the person to yourself, don't come on here and keep setting yourself up for another shalacking.

I got no problem with you disagreeing with my opinion. Hell at least I I'm only about 60% sure I'm right. I know Floyd is good enough that he has every bit of a chance of winning as Manny does. And I don't hate Floyd. I got mad respect for his skills. Once again my criticisms were due to his competition and lack of challenging himself.

That was my impression of watching that second round. If Manny hits him flush like Shane did, Mayweather will be in serious trouble.

Mayweather has been hurt before, albeit not as badly as this time, and this confirms to me the suspicion that Mayweather doesn't have a great chin. He showed heart and determination, as well as a good boxing brain, to come through that rough patch, but nonetheless it is clear that he can be hurt.

Pacquiao is faster, and IMHO punches harder than Mosley, and Mosley landed two clean, flush shots which shook Mayweather to his boots. If Pacquiao landed similarly, and I honestly think he will land plenty because he is at least as fast as Mayweather Jr, he has a greater chance of putting Mayweather away.

It didn't change my mind about anything. It A) made me pretty sure Shane's declined based on how he gassed, which there was always a possibility of, going in B) cemented my respect for Floyd's abilities.

I've rewatched the fight a couple of times and tend to agree. I think Floyd figured out Mosley's limitations fairly quickly, and his crisp counters just took Mosley's heart away. Sure Mosley was past his best, but Floyd made him tentative with a great performance.

It was more about what Floyd did, rather than what Mosley didn't do, that made the fight so one sided.

Manny would be throwing different types of punches from shorter arms and he's not as big or physically strong as Shane Mosley. It's a different fight entirely. Floyd would control manny with that Jab and fast counters and bully him with his strength. Manny would have the same problems as Shane did in trying to follow up and attack. Floyd is no Cotto or Hatton.

He is faster, though, much faster than Shane in fact and his speed maginfies his power, which makes him hit extremely hard and often. Plus Pac has far greater stamina than Shane.

For the record, I don't agree with the consensus view that to beat Floyd you need to 'out strength' him. The Hatton fight was proof positive for me that Floyd is a VERY strong fighter. He bullied Hatton on the inside on the rare occasions he was allowed to operate there.

IMHO the way to beat Floyd is with speed- you have to punch faster and have quicker feet to beat him, which is why it is so difficult to beat him because they are two of his strongest attributes.

Manny is faster than Floyd, both of hand and foot. That, coupled with Pac's power, is the key to that fight.

How many of these things are still true of a Manny without 'supplements'? That's a serious question mark leading into this fight in my mind.

Zab gave Floyd all kinds of problems. Manny does everything better than Zab.

Marquez gave Manny all kinds of problems. Floyd does everything better than Marquez.

So obviously it's an interesting fight.

I'll admit that there are question marks in my mind too. However, we can only look at the fights as they have played out and draw conclusions from them, and Manny is faster and has always hit hard, even back in the year dot when he was bouncing Ledwaba around like a tennis ball.

If Manny is on PED's, was he on them then? Even most of the PED bandwagoners seem to think that Pac started the 'supplements' after the JMM rematch. It is a pertinent question because even in the Ledwaba/Barerra days he was super fast and very powerful.
