Mayweather/Mosley PPV # = 1.2 Million

Discussion in 'General Boxing Discussion' started by Quo Vadimus, May 9, 2010.

?

Were the #'s higher, lower or just about what you expected?

  1. Higher than I thought they'd be

    21.4%
  2. Lower than I thought they'd be

    42.9%
  3. Pretty much what I thought they'd be

    35.7%

It's been reported over the last few days that the Mayweather/Mosley PPV did around 1.2 million buys.

How does that jibe with your expectations? I know Schaefer was predicting 2-3 million, but I chalked that up to promoters being promoters and exacerbating everything.

Mayweather isn't as big a draw as he thinks he is obviously. But 1.2 million is a good number so I'm not sure why anybody would be disappointed. 3 million buys? Hell they even went so far to say 4 million buys. Please, that's just whacked!

I've been saying that but people are blinded by the buys that he got with Hatton/DLH as his opponent.

Prior to DLH he never cracked 400K.

The amount of PPV buys are going to be capped at a certain number regardless of who's fighting. The only way the numbers will increase is if Jesus Christ returns and books a fight with Satan.

I'm pretty sure May/Mosley sold better than May/Hatton?

1.2 is a great number against a guy like Mosley. Thats more buys than Oscar got with Mosley and triple what Cotto did against Mosley. Than you factor in the higher gate, the amount of close circuit buys and tickets sold at the cinema and this fight did great business with only 1 star.

I think Lesnar/Carwin will put up around 1 million or more if they hype the sh*t out of it.

The Pac/Hatton number were never released either. Bob Arum wouldnt allow it. But we got the numbers anyways. They get the information from Sources inside the PPV companies. Thats how numbers are received. Its not the UFC releasing the numbers, Its people not even associated with the UFC, so the numbers can be counted on.

Well, since Mosley - Cotto made 400,000 buys

Mosley - Floyd made 1.2 million buys

Floyd is clearly a huge draw to outsell Cotto, the current puertorican superstar.

Schaeffer was just talking out of his ass. The only fight that can sell more than 1.5 million nowadays is Floyd and Pac.

    4 millions? LMAO

Lets not forget that boxing PPV's cost more. So even doing less PPV buys they can still generate more money.

Good point. Boxing really is on a self destruct mission. Put EVERY fight your core audience might want to see on PPv (Margarito-Garcia!?) and charge $50 for fights that might transcend your core audience. Suicidal tendencies.

Imagine how many sales they'd do if EVERY PPV was 20-30 bucks each.

They'd get WAY more purchases, and as such would either get pretty much what they're getting NOW or even more.

But the powers that be are too stupid/greedy to do that, and so they'll keep bumping the price up and up and up, blocking out a huge portion of fans.

I'm pretty shocked that this PPV didn't do much better. Shane was never a huge draw on his own, but he is one of the most recognizable names in boxing.

By PPV terms anything over 1 million buys is a bonanza.
