You know where guys like Paul Daley can thrive. Because let's face it guys like him who can't wrestle worth a damn are only going to ever be middling good fighters and never great. So maybe their should be a branch in the MMA where guys like him could compete in stand up only where no take downs were allowed and he would only fight other people like him or even full contact guys willing to fight on his turf. At any rate I think a stand up only MMA format would be world's more exciting than the often floor burning borefests that occasionally occur in full contact. What do you guys think of that?
They might as well make offshoot company if they did that. It would turn the UFC into the WWE even more if they did that in the same organization. What would be next? Tables, Ladders and Chairs matches?
Maybe guys like Daley, Hardy, etc should learn a little wrestling and train to get off their backs. Pathetic the weak wrestling from Brits.
You can call it pathetic if you like, but it is not their fault. Wrestling is pretty much non-existent over here...considering that both Hardy and Daley didn't really take that much damage against two of the best wrestlers in the sport is actually pretty impressive considering. No one is gonna pick up wrestling in their 20s and get anywhere near the level to deal with stand-outs such as Koscheck and GSP. And the nature of this sport, where wrestling is so prominent, is very much to their disadvantage.
So because certain people aren't good enough at MMA, we're supposed to dumb down the rules until they catch up? TFK
Yep, my bad. Hardy and Daley should quit MMA then. I am not talking about them getting to the same level as GSP or Koscheck. I am talking about them getting to even the same level as a high school freshman on the wrestling team. It's pathetic how TOTALLY controlled they both were on the ground. Both guys, in their respective fights, looked almost shocked that grappling and wrestling were allowed.
The whole purpose of MMA is defeated by making strictly stand-up rules.:: It might not make for great tv for the masses but hey....welcome to MMA! Accept it or change the channel.:dunno:
Controlled, yes, but they weren't beat up. They did as well as they possibly good...you can't just teach anyone how to avoid the likes of GSP and Koscheck from taking you down....unfortunately for Daley and Hardy, and british fighters as a whole, they haven't had this grounding in wrestling from a young age...yet they were both able to go the distance without really picking up as much as a scratch. Unfortunately because of his stupid antics, we won't get to see Daley vs the rest of the 170 division, but lets see how Hardy does. GSP rates him as highly as Alves, Fitch and some of the others guys that he was also very dominant against.
it hapenned here in Quebec, but the commission wouldn't sanction it so the fighters made a gentleman agreement before the bouts to keep them standing. In the main even, Thompson, who claimed Bosse, the crowd favorite, was going for a guillotine, took him down and went on some GnP. The ref couldn't stopped it as, technically, the fight was under MMA rules. THe crowd went berszerk and a riot nearly broke out as beer and chairs were thrown in the cage. The fight had to be cancelled. Worst of all, because of it, the quebec commission nearly cancelled the upcoming UFC event ( Leites-SIlva I think ).
Maybe, but if Hardy fought Fitch he would be controlled in the same fashion in my opinion. I don't mean to rag on these two guys solely but they are the most recent examples where wrestlers easily win fights without risking much. It just PISSES me off. And I would guess they both probably gave extensive time in training to stopping take downs, but it's just disappointing that they couldn't in the actually fights.
Oh man that would be so cool !! Wrestling division!! I can already hear Bruce Buffer. IT IS TIMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE for some dry humping !!
