Povetkin To Hold Presser on Klitschko Drug Test Demands

    By Andrey Krikunov

The team of Russian heavyweight Alexander Povetkin will hold a press-conference in Moscow on May 12. They promise to tell the truth about the negotiations with the IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and about their request to have the champion go through an Olympic-style drug test.

The managing Director of Sauerland Even,t Christian Meyer, and Povetkin’s manager Wladimir Hryunov will take part in the conference, as well as the director of the Anti-doping Center, who is expert of chemical science Grigoriy Rodchenkov and the president of the Russian Boxing Federation Victor Ageev. Rodchenkov will offer his solution to the doping-control issue before a potential Klitschko-Povetkin.

“The main problem for any boxer who is going to fight Klitschko is that they are highly valued by televions, they are on a wave of success and they dictate the termsâ€￾, - said Povetkin’s trainer Teddy Atlas to BoxingScene.com. – “They choose the most convenient opponents and shape situations in their favor. The only way to have control over some issues is to have this fight in Russiaâ€￾.

    --------------------------------------

Pleased to see another boxer willing to go through this protocol to ensure a clean fight. I'm interested to see what Wlad has to say in responce, it could be a 'revealing lead' ..or,.. maybe he'll prove himself a clean champion,.. by the sounds of thier determination to pop the question, we're gunna find out eventually,..:crafty:

Unfortunately I don't think Povetkin has the type of negotiating leverage in the sport like Mayweather to make such demands.

Isn't Wlad negotiating with Haye anyway?

Well, regardless,..Povetkin being a mandatory, he'll have to explain 'why he refuses,...' it should be interesting, and potentially revealing,.. but, as of yet, there's been no comment,.. he may well accept the protocol,.. whatever happens,.. the spotlight is on him now. :crafty: May all pro-fighters feel the pressure,.. so far, in correct allignment with your opinion that most are on some form of performance enhancers.. the boxing community, has been eerily silent about Mayweather's introduction of Olypmic styled testing.

This is exactly what I said would happen......before too long everyone is making demands based on nothing. Povetkin doesn't want the fight, he wants €300,000 in step aside money and then he can go back to fighting Estrada and that ilk.

I think Wlad is on the juice.

The annoying thing here is that I just think Povetkin wants no piece of Wlad one way or another. He's been #1 since beating Chambers, and that was in 2008!!! He's just using it as a way out.

    Precisely.

I think the vast majority of professional athletes are taking something the should not be.

This is the case for several reasons.

    1. There is a feeling that "the other guy is doing it so I better too"

    2. A massive range of products are proscribed or banned, thus making it, practically speaking, far easier to commit an offence, even unwillingly.

    3. There is a tradition of making exceptions for exceptional people- consider the Carl Lewis situation where a massive raft of changes were made to the rules to basically make-good on the indiscretions that Lewis had committed.

I dont know for sure if Wlad is on gear, but people are free to debate it provided they go about it in a constructive fashion.

The debate has now gotten so frayed, so convoluted and so badly unbalanced that people are saying on one hand that Manny Pacquaio is on gear and has a rock solid jaw because of it, and cannot be hurt.

In the next breath, we are told Wlad is "dripping with Steroids" or "Sweating steroids"...and has a shitty chin. There is absolutely no STANDARD of language, no standard of proof when it comes to PED abuse. How can one guy be using PED's and be untouchable? And the next guy is using them and is as frail as he has ever been?

Most guys are probably taking something. But that is easy to do. Flu remedy will fail you a test. Once you fail, you get branded this, that and the other, unless you are American. A Diuretic to dump weight will fail you a test. An antihistamine will fail you a test. A Pro-Hormone will fail you a test.

One question I would ask is this: in the aftermath of Klitschko-Brewster I, a raft of blood and tissue samples were taken from Klitschkos body. These samples were then aggressively analyzed, ostensibly to show up the cause of his having high sugar levels in his blood which may have lead to his collapse.

Surely those tests could have revealed a pattern of PED use?

Of course, the samples were hurriedly destroyed in the aftermath, and nobody around here seemed to mind at the time....

If you were looking for it. Besides, a lot of PEDs today aren't like those from the 80's and don't necessarily carry the same affects or remain in your system for as long a time. Anyone with a PhD in Sports Medicine would know that.

The blood, tissue and saliva samples were taken the same day/night of the Brewster fight.

Again, more of the innuendo. He has a PhD, so he must be Pedding.

Well Manny Steward is an illiterate peasant from the Phillipines....and he must be pedding too.

It is exactly what I said it would turn out to be....everything and everyone is a suspect.

And all because little Pretty Boy Robespierre wouldn't just fight.

Frans Botha...he was on Steroids too. A guy who was the very walking talking embodiment of the word AVERAGE. Yes...he was on PED's. Now Manny Pac is on PED's because he has shown so many great leaps forward. And Wlad, who has become LESS AND LESS offensive, is also on PED's, despite going backwards. Of course, none of these guys are American, which means...yes you've guessed it, they MUST be on PED's.

    Everybody is.

Personified symbolism for supremecy / Ethical systematics = Evil Irishman. :crafty:

If Wlad, or his philosophical and politically ambitious brother, want to argue in favor of a flawed system in order to retain the corrupt undergrounds of this sport, it just goes to show, no matter how charitable or humanist someone is documented to be, you cant be too careful,... integrity,..tends to...'fluctuate'..:crafty:

I know you wont like it,.. but knowing pathetic american websites want to kill him over his skin and nationality,.. I hope they're hypocritically less protective of him than they are of Pedquiao, and keep the spotlight on him for some more answers,.. we've got our first lead... let's hear his argument.....

    Meh.

Isn't it fair to say that the most dominant, standout, unique, and historically unprecedented athletes are going to be the ones with the most suspicion about them? If ODLH KO'd Trinidad, KO'd Mosley, then moved up and KO'd Hopkins wouldn't we be having the same conversation?

The fighters who engender the most rumor about PEDs are those that should. There is nothing ethnic about it. People like to think sports are "fair", and whenever one team or one individual seems to win too much, or too easily people get angry and they also get suspicious.

Arguing that Manny Pac or the Klits "shouldn't" be focused on with suspicion is a waste of time. They are in the limelight, at the top of the boxing world, and they are accomplishing things that are extremely atypical in boxing. Whether you can break down the logic statistically or not really isn't the point, as different fighters will find uses for different drugs that will impact them in different ways. Some may see marginal benefit, but it's still called CHEATING. In Pac's case (as I have pointed out before), he is actually statistically trending in the opposite direction of older fighters... his stats have him getting YOUNGER.

If anyone is so offended, or incensed by accusations that their favorite fighter is on the juice, then please raise holy hell and demand that they take the USADA testing before each fight. A true fan would do that for the object of their affection, so as to show the whole world that they are the best and remove all suspicion. The angrier you get over all this nagging "testing" talk, or rumors, the harder you should fight for Olympic style testing in boxing so you don't have to listen to it anymore. Until that happens, it will NEVER go away because there will ALWAYS be doubt. It is very simple.

When I see people come on the boards and wring their hands every time someone comes out and asks a fighter to take these superior tests, I see someone who is more concerned that their boy is "inconvenienced" than they are that their boy is actually FOR REAL. That is just fucked up.

What I have to laugh at is the claim that the Klitschkos only win titles because it is a weak division. Now, it seems, we are being told that they have only won titles because it is a weak division and because they are on steroids. Next week, it will be weak division, steroids, bribes and fixed fights.

There is nothing "atypical" about what Wladimir is doing. He is a tall, strong, talented guy with some serious tools and a lot of amateur experience. He is trained by a HOF trainer and leads a clean life. His chin is the same limestone it always was- not granite but not mud either.

And this is the fundament.....Manny Pacquaio has made the transition from a guy who got knocked out and beaten down at the lower weights to a guy who makes mincemeat of Hatton and Cotto at higher weights. Not to mention Oscar.

Wladimir, in the meantime, has operated in a weight range of 220lbs on his pro debut in 1996 to a career high 246lb in 2007. That is 26 lbs over 10 years. If you look at the charts, with one or two exceptions, he has been gaining weight incrementally over the years.

He has shown NO increase in durability/chin and under Manny Steward has adopted a more conservative style in order to address his stamina issues.

How people can come along and say "Oh, he is clearly on gear"....is beyond me.

His situation bears NO RESEMBLANCE to Manny Pacquaio. None.

His stats dont show a man getting younger. If anything, as I said, he is regressing slightly.

We'll wait and see what happens with Wlad,.. there's a snippet on boxingscene that says he's not against the tests and he may take them,.. so,.. not quite ready to pop into a demon yet.

Here is the thing. Who the fuck is POVETKIN to make demands?

This is the guy who got a black eye from Chambers and was dumped on his flabby posterior by Mora.

Of course, Thuggy Atlas influence in all of this needs examining. How nice to hear Thuggy heads up an operation whereby a fair fight can "only take place in Russia"....

A fighter shouldn't be castigated for demanding PED testing. Ever. Until it is mandated by sanctioning bodies and commissions, the only acceptable response from a fighter in a superior bargaining position should be "Fine, but you are paying for it." And that's it.

Right...but none of those were tested for anything other than what's traditionally tested. So what are you talking about?

And yes, everyone is a suspect...including Floyd himself. What you didn't know? Forgive us for being less unforgiving to those who can't get their story straight.

While manny's ascent might raise an eyebrow, I cant see anything about the klitschkos which indicate that they are accomplishing anything atypical in the sport. They show up in shape, which I guess is atypical nowadays for the division but nothing more, they don't throw hundreds of punches per round nor are they the fastest in the division...there is nothing unnatural about the manner of their victories, its more Wlad's schooling, Vitaly's unorthodoxy and use of range, plus an ordinary stream of challenegers
