IMHO the stoppage was a good one. Watching live I thought it VERY premature, but the replay showed that his eyes were glazed over and he was one shot from a Khan-esque turtle impression. He has talent but he has been completely protected and he is not ready for what a guy like Kat brings. Werren must have thought Kat was another Johanneson... :atu: He should fuck Werren off and rebuild elsewhere. MTF
I did and I was impressed. I have to admit that it was the first time I've seen him. He's definately one to keep an eye on. MTF
In hindsight the stoppage was VALID. Moreso because Mitchell had turned away. If I was Mitchell I would have taken a knee, and saw it out. He did have Katsidis buzzed too, remember. All in all it was a gamble that did not pay off, at least as I say, Mitchell was not embarrassed. And Ian Darke needs to learn the difference between GREEK and ROMAN body armour. Katsidis did not look like Russell Crowe.:notallthere::notallthere: Katisidis wore an ancient Greek Barbute into the ring.
The ref did a good job in stopping that fight. It would have been great to have a few more rounds but Kevin didn't know where he was... You gotta love Katisdis, a fight with Marquez would be interesting..
Darke was trying to plug the Aussie connection between Crowe and Katsidis. The "Gladiator" analogy was wack, as it is Troy in which the Greek barbute featured heavily. The fact that he tried to force it down our throats anyways tells you all you need to know about the shite that is Ian Darke.::
I watched some fights during the 9 months I lived in Dublin, and you guys have by far the worst commentary I've ever heard. I was there when Dunne was at the height of his powers and the blind adulation was enough to make you spew.
No doubt mate. He should have taken a knee and seen the round out. He showed a complete lack of experience by trying to trade, but that is to be expected when he has been fed bum after bum for SEVEN years. I agree he wasn't embarassed but he needs to fuck off away from Werren to rebuild IMHO. Like I said, he has talent, but he needs to learn his trade, which is a shocking indictment of how Werren has fucked him. MTF
I always thought Crowe's performance in Seven was great. Almost as good as that Brad Pitt fellow in The Insider.
I dont know that Warren has "fucked" Mitchell.....I mean, the Prescott thing was quite clever. And he delivered very well for Hatton. I dont like Frank Warren, but Mitchell is unlikely to have had the fight forced on him.
Yea I think he was sloppy defensively because of Hortons lack of pop, he should be using these fights to work on these things, pretty frustrating I must say. Gavin looked very good, and clearly is the most developed of all of them, with technical skills etc. However, I think DeGale is nowhere near the finished article yet, and if his natural talent can be honed he will be a real force.
It depends how you look at it...financially Warren has probably served Mitchell very well....and what a dream to be fighting in Upton Park....I don't think that other promoters would have been able to deliver that.
:fightme::warning::fightme:Cop a load of this........http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/may/15/kevin-mitchell-stopped-by-michael-kastidis
I dont see how Frank did anything wrong on this one... he was British champion and was coming of two decent victories, gotta step up at some point.
:dunno::dunno:Like I said....http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/may/15/kevin-mitchell-stopped-by-michael-kastidis
Well maybe the ref should have let it gone on a bit longer...he deserved everyone of those heavy blows. I'm not convinced it made a difference....Mitchell was too easy to hit...that's always been the case, and was shown up again. I thought he'd do a better job of staying out of range for the earlier part of the fight, and also thought he'd land more shots of his own.
Blaming this on Warren is a discredit to Kat. Why cant we just say that Kat proved to be the better fighter? I mean its not Mitchell made the step up from second rate comp to Mayweather. Kat isnt an elite fighter, if Mitchell cant beat a guy like him at this stage its doubtful he'll ever beat an elite.
Like Mitchells chin...... OK here it is......http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/may/15/kevin-mitchell-stopped-by-michael-kastidis
Here's the rub (as I've said before...) If you are a borderline bum, Werren is a tremendous promoter. He is somehow able to get all kinds of mooks in line for WBO title shots and, if you are average, he will get you the title shot and you will probably beat an old, faded champion to earn the 'world championship'. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking Enzo, Rees, Cook et al, to name a few in recent times. If you have talent, and are decent, Werren is a complete fucking hinderence. Look at how much money and kudos Hatton got when he told Werren to go fuck himself. Calzaghe did one when Werren wanted to protect his investment EVEN MORE that 'stay at home Joe' would allow. Even Khan, for all his faults, refused to stay in Bolton fighting the Salita's of this world for the next XXX years and pissed off over the pond. Mitchell is a former ABA champ and had/has plenty of potential. He should have been nurtured properly, progressing at a steady rate over thirty one fights so that he was in the best possible position to challenge a guy likie Katsidis. Instead, he has been fed bum after bum after bum, and I include Prescott in this who is a puncher with the brain of a blade of grass and the speed of a sloth, so tht his record looks world class but he has fought no-one of the calibre of Katisidis in SEVEN years as a professional. At this tage of his career, he shouldn't have to 'gamble'. He should either be good enough and prepared enough or he should have been consigned to the world level dustbin. MTF
I think it is more what happened in the first 20 or so fights of his career...he allowed himself to get away with mistakes in the ring because he was too good for the men Warren was putting him in against. That's how bad habits stick. A lot of fighters benefit from having to respond to a wake-up call early on in their careers. Overall I don't think Warren has done a bad job with him....the over-protectiveness can sort of be understood because Mitchell started so young, and as i say, he's been able to make a name for himself and get this big show.
I agree with a lot of that, and commend you fully on realizing that Amir fucked off to America to serve himself, and was not, as you have suggester earlier, chased off by people in tartan pants and doc martens.
