What's sad about is how openly corrupt they are. It's like they don't even bother pretending to look legitimate anymore.

Margarito would be favored over most 154 lbers. He is an active fighter. His suspension is over. Bitching about his ranking at #2 is just that--bitching. If you really think it is so outrageous, bet against him.

They gave Chavez Jr. this ranking, so he can fight Duddy for the WBC silver title t.t.f.k.a. (the title formerly knows as) interim title. Of course Arum will sell that silver shit like gold and Chavez Jr. will never be allowed in the same timezone as the real champion Sergio Martinez. But a little bribe here and there, and Martinez will vacate his belt and suddenly Chavez Jr. will claim a "real" world title. I hope Duddy wins. :doh:

your premise (a loss should necessarily keep a fighter from being ranked), facts (except for 154 claim), and conclusion (Margarito should not be ranked #2) are all garbage

Cheating doesn't mean you aren't good. See Pacquiao, Hopkins, Holyfield, Abraham...etc.

I prefer that rankings reflect reality, i.e. the better fighter is ranked ahead of the lesser fighter.

I understand that it's not always done that way. I understand that I don't always know who is the better fighter. I understand that providing an incentive for fighters to move up the rankings by fighting other good fighters makes sense and often results in lesser fighters being ranked ahead of better fighters. I understand that politics, nationality, biases, finances, and dishonesty (among many other things) can corrupt rankings to some extent.

However, four sanctioning bodies and free trade tend to mitigate the damage done to the sport from having some guys get ranked higher than they probably should be.

To be the best, you don't have to fight the best or beat the best. It's just that fighting and beating proven fighters tends to be the best proof and provide the most justification.

I mean, it is hard to rank Margarito #2 at 154, and even harder when one considers that the guy came off a loss in his last title fight at 147, a title fight which cast serious aspersions over much of his work in that division. Did he not already lost to Santos at 154, an inauspicious end to his first stint at 154?
