I knew someone would do that. But this isn't a Mayweather glorification thread, even though slystaff started it.

Ray Leonard is Perhaps THE Most Complete Fighter EVER...He was Better in Some Facets than Others, but there WASN'T a Glaring "Weakness" in his Game...

Well Im just sticking to guys who could box at range and also slug it out, since that really defines 'multi-dimensional'.

    Ray Robinson
    Tommy Hearns
    Sal Sanchez
    Lennox Lewis
    Ezzard Charles
    Mike McCallum
    Marvin Hagler
    Ray Leonard

I dispute Lennox Lewis and Thomas Hearns.

Sure...both guys have the power to bomb people out. But when I think of slugging..I'm talking about a back and forth war. Haven't yet seen either man prevail in a war (Lennox against Mercer perhaps)

  14. REEDsART

Hearns vs. Roldan Counts...That was MORE of a "War" than ANY Fight Floyd's Been in...

Too many to even list with Lewis. Taking shots isn't a prerequisite of 'slugging'. It's about throwing caution to the wind in pursuit of a knock out.

I dunno i think prime james Toney and prime Juan Manuel Marquez are pretty up there for this thread.
People are now all in love with JMM's offensive arsenal which is one of the best I have seen but forget how defensive he used to be as well...the guy has it all.
    Same with Toney.

Barrera would be a respectable addition to this argument. Not top-ten, but he has my respect in this regard.

    Agreed.

Slugged it out with Morales. Outboxed Hamed. Showed good punches to head and body. Good chin. Good power. Decent speed. Reasonable defense when necessary.

    BULLSHIT on Toney

    TOTAL BULLSHIT

Toney was a wonderful, flat-footed, stationary defensive guy with terrific countering skills... he had ZERO mobility and was never particularly good at being an aggressor (dont even say he caught Nunn that way, because he didnt, Nunn came to him because he was looking more and more like an easy target)

    James Toney DOES NOT BELONG

  27. cdogg187

    cdogg187 GLADYS

I cant believe this many guys mentioned Toney... he couldnt force the action and he never moved a day in his life... anybody who could backtrack, move and jab gave him fits

  28. Pascals Wager

    Lewis was definately multi-dimensional.
    SRL most definately.
    Kostya Tsyzu also
    Toney, RJJ, PBF,Hearns.
Holyfield COULD be more than he actually chose to be.

  29. Ramonza Soliloquies

    Ramonza Soliloquies "Twinkle Toes" McJack

Good point with Holyfield. As great fighters go, Holyfield was something of an oddity to me --- unlike most men who achieve his standing or higher, he seemed to do everything quite well, but nothing truly great, in my estimation. "Jack of all trades, Master of none," as the old maxim goes. Still, adding up all of his skills, & coupling them with that amazing will & self-belief amounted to a great, great fighter at Heavyweight, & an even better one at Cruiser.

  30. Ramonza Soliloquies

    Ramonza Soliloquies "Twinkle Toes" McJack

Admittedly, his defense was never great, but in his first meet with Alexis Arguello, Aaron Pryor showed a quite remarkable free-style switch between swarming & boxing. It was important he did, too --- for all the hoopla & hype, Pryor absolutely respected Arguello's punch, no matter the weight. Wading in all night gave Pryor pause for thought, & launched the stop-start, counter-punch approach he periodically employed in that bout.
