According to the HBO article, I watched him for the first time against Santos and he appears to be a good boxer but what I don’t understand is the amount of publicity this WBA title holder is getting. I hope it’s not too much too soon for the dude and he ends up getting KO’ed by Cotto.

How do HBO know you watched him for the first time vs Santos?

What does being Jewish have to do with getting boxing coverage? I'm sure many Russian boxers that we've seen in the past were Jewish as well.

The guy doesn't seem to be a KO artist. There is got to be something that is causing the appeal.

I suppose it's because he has an interesting story being Israel's first world champion and that he's training to be a rabbi. Also, unlike Dmitri Salita, he's actually pretty good.

    Juventus are shit.

Juventus are signing Aguero, Torres, Silva and John Terry in a deal worth apparently 372049327324 gazillion quid. I just read that on www.bullshittransferrumours.co.uk.

Boxing loves two things: 1. stuff out of the ordinary and 2. Stuff out of the ordinary which once used to be the ordinary.

Boxing used to be full of Jewish fighters. Now, Foreman harks back to that era.

If Foreman decks Cotto....I wanna hear Lamley screaming "DOWN GOES COTTO!!"

Yeah, every once in a while you'll see a 'Rabbi Boxer' headline or something along those lines in the NY papers or elsewhere.

His promoter is also Jewish...and Arum's made a point of highlighting that part of Foreman's 'story' on occasion.

LOL thanks, I've been a fan since the Michel Platini days (yes I'm old) :)
I also had this logo/avatar since I started posting way back when..I think boxing.com days.

After I read Double L's comment I went to fightnews to see what's happening and I came across another Yuri article…this time its about the ring walk and yes it has a religious aspect to it, I just didn't think that it was a big deal to be a Jewish boxer.

So if Arum really cares about Yuri, what put him in with a dangerous guy like Cotto? Unless Arum knows that Cotto is done or out of his element at ‘54. I'm slightly leaning towards Cotto in this fight for obvious reasons (more experience against better opposition)

He's a media sensation because he's never been a boxing sensation.

i hear you. as hard as it is for us to imagine, given all of the mismatches we're subjected to, every once in a while a promoter is forced to give us a decent match-up, even if it means one of his fighters has to lose.

promoters do take risks on occasion - but they're always calculated. in this case, if Cotto wins, he'll be a three division champ and back on top. if Foreman wins, he'll have proved himself against a respectable (and HBO worthy) champ, and probably get a few more HBO shows out of it.

Yea, he has a gimmick. Like Juan Diaz going to college.

I'm not sure he's a media sensation outside of the world of HBO hype.

I was at several of his undercard fights coming up when he fought at the Connecticut casinos and it's not like he has a big following or anything.

It's not like the Greenwich Jews flock out to support the kid.

If Foreman beats Cotto then look for Vinny Pazienza to ring his pharmacist, then announce a comeback. Vinny has a hard on for fighting Jews. He thinks its 1912.

He's just referring to the Pazienza/Rosenblatt rivalry. From what I can remember, those guys genuinely hated each other, for whatever reason. I don't remember the details.

It was Pazienza's hair that won him that first fight.

Pazienza had lines shaved into the side of his head or something...and after the fight credited his haircut with helping to psyche Rosenblatt out or something like that.

    That's just my interweb character.

In my real life I have 5 million fight tapes I cycle through everyday, and a heavybag hanging right in front of the television set.

If my family complains I tell them to shut-up or Leon Spinks will come and set them on fire while they sleep. :warning:

so it's basically stuff out of the ordinary no matter if it was ordinary before or not, so it's actually not two things...
