I was reading an article on the upcoming fight between Green and Ward, and they wrote that Ward had a 6 year unbeaten streak as an Amateur and was currently undefeated as a pro, and it made me wonder something. Has there ever been a fighter who went his entire Amateur career and professional career having never lost? I mean, I'm sure there are some cats out there that had one year as an amateur and then jumped to the pros, and some (like Tommy Morrison) never had an amateur career, but was just wondering if there was someone that had an extensive career in the amateurs, never losing, and then had a decent length pro career that never saw them lose. That would be a hell of an accomplishment.
Tommy Morrison had a VERY GOOD amateur career, and only Ray Mercer could beat him at his peak, which he did in the 1988 Olympic Trials by decision, otherwise, Tommy would have been our representative in Seoul and won the Gold Medal.
That's weird, for some reason I have been thinking that Morrison never had an actual Amateur career, just the toughman shit.
I saw Morrison win the Western Olympic Trials here, and watched him work out at the old HBA Gym, and he was my pick for the Olympic team. Mercer was active duty Army at the time and barely won that fight, and in fact, there was controversy over the decision given to Ray.
calzaghe also had a very good amateur career. i forget, but there was a story on the last guy who beat him amateurs. i think calzaghe might have been 16 or so.

ah. I've watched boxing for a long time, since I was a kid. Never had the opportunity to really follow it as much as I'd liked. I was homeless for years and didn't really have the chance to see the fights like I wanted. And when I DID have a place, I didn't always have cable so I missed out on the fights on ESPN and HBO/Showtime. I just recently got comcast cable so I have HBO and have been watching fights whenever they've aired, and only missed this past Friday Night Fights. The day I signed up with this board is when I got my cable, so whenever I signed up that's when I got back into it. I have mostly kept up with the big fighters while not having cable. The Mayweather, Pacquiao, Cotto, etc. My favorite fighters include Chris Byrd (who's retired now, thank God), Nonito Donaire and Timothy Bradley, and I just became a fan of Yuri Foreman after his performance against Cotto.
