Let's hope not. The guy made a mockery of boxing fans and the sport itself.

Don't think there'll ever be a guy as fast or visually impressive as that, no. Roy was one in a Googooplex as Doc Brown would put it. I personally think Floyd's probably just as good an overall fighter though, as was B-Hop in the early naughties and Im quite sure there will be more in the future. Roy wasn't quite as good as his highlight reel.

I call bullshit on all Roy haters. If you had ONE fighter to pick one prime all time fighter P4P fighter to win a fight with your life at stake, you'd all be begging for RJJ to save you.

No. He'd be in the top 20 for sure, but no.

In the Name of OBJECTIVITY, Boxing Fans Need to Judge Roy on What he DID, as Opposed to What he DIDN'T Do...Roy Jones is w/Out Question THE MOST Nitpicked & Hyper-Analyzed Fighter of ALL Time...

He fought an undefeated Toney when Toney was considered by many as P4P #1...and embarrassed him! He also moved up to Heavyweight and won a title there.

Therefore, in my book, Roy can be forgiven for not fighting Calzaghe, Benn, Collins and Darius.

What he can't be forgiven for is....QUITTING the third fight with Tarver.

I agreed with that sentiment for a while but then I realized how shot he was. I was so mad when I watched that fight, especially after round 5 when he could have finished Tarver.

Actually in round 11, when he was nearly KO'd and badly wobbled, I was impressed that he kept fighting and had Tarver in trouble.

And by the same token he should be judged on what he did do instead of what his fans imagine he could have done. As we've been through before, I think his resume is sturdy and he's a stick on ATG, but he sure as hell isn't top 10 OAT or the greatest lightheavyweight ever.

Fair enough but if any fighter from 90s is in the top 10, it would be RJJ. As long as no other fighter from the 90s is in the top 10 or ranked higher, then I'm cool with a top 20 at worst for RJJ.

In fact I take it back, having Roy top 10 isn't that crazy. I don't personally, but it isn't totally nuts.

Hmmm...not too sure about that. I can't personally see an argument for his being included in the top ten. Top 20? Absolutely. But not top ten.

Roy was the best fighter of that decade. No argument there for me.

I know it probably pains you to pick Roy over Tito or Cotto but if your life is on the line...

I have him low in the top 20, neck and neck with B-Hop. But it depends who you have above him, really. Personally I think Pernel, Jones, Hops and Floyd, the 4 really PPv era, modern-modern greats will rank very closely. (And I regard them as closley matched fighters quality wise, too.) Yet seeing Pernel in a top 10-12 list never raises any eyebrows. Roy's resume matches up solidly against Pernel's, IMO.

As time goes on Im starting to think Pac ranks a little below those 4. All his recent significant vistories have been against very left hand dominant converted southpaw fighters (Diaz, DLH, Hatton, Cotto) without the strong straight right hand which troubles him so much and thats inflating out perception of how good he is and how much he's imporved. Most likely Floyd would unmask that really it's the matchmaking which has improved as much or more than the figher.

As for Hopkins (who was my #2 favorite for a very long time), if you look at his biggest wins: Tarver, Pavlik, DLH,Tito his resume looks even weaker. Tarver was arguably shot and had not won back to back fights in about 4 years. Pavlik is clearly one dimensional and possibly even worse than Lacy. DLH was borderline shot and out of his weight class. Tito was a great win though but proven to have no boxing IQ in subsequent fights.

IMO Floyd would rank higher than Hopkins right now and definitely if he beat Pacquiao.

I really think Pernell has a less all time standing than RJJ,Hopkins, and PBF and that's even with giving him the victory over JCC.

What bothers me is that RJJ's unwillingness to challenge himself has been rewarded with the assumption by many that he would've beaten them anyways.
