A guy who fight the best win or lose, fight the most hall of famers, and moves up in weight and fight the best at each division without waiting 2-3 years to set up the fight...or ducking/retiring to avoid fighting them.

Shoulder blocks. Speculations are much cooler than actual facts.

Pacquiao, hands down. On achievements, he simply has to get the nod over Mayweather, & I'm the first to call out people for ignoring or forgetting what a brilliant first-half of his career Mayweather had.

Mayweather has won titles in 5 divisions over 12 years and in all that time and through all those victories he remains......

If Mayweather was a scam...surely at least one of the following would have defeated him...

    Hernandez
    Corrales
    Castillo
    Hatton
    De la Hoya
    Judah
    Mosley

I'll be more impressed with Manny when he beats a fighter with a strong right cross. He's fought a long string of converted southpaws who are left hand dominant and that has played a large part in just how impressive he's looked. The only fighter with a meaningful right hand he's fought since Morales is Marquez II & he probably should have lost that - this is the vital subtext to this spectacular multi weight spree. Freddie is exceptionally smart with his match making.

Floyd is simply the most versatile fighter since Ray Leonard. There isn't a style he can't adapt to, neutralise and live with. He's the superior fighter for my money.

No. In fact the two are perfectly correlated in PBF's case. You really do prize the "0," don't you? You're typical HBO fodder.

I know Clottey's best punch is his left-hook, but is he a converted south-paw?

Also, Cotto has a very strong right hand, whether he's a converted south-paw or not.

Fair point, but A) his right cross is not especially dangerous or straight B) he's a classic 'plant & setter', exacerbated by that shitty modern ear muff and counter defensive style (gotta be my least favourite style in boxing). In short he was another stylistic dream for Pac who can fire and move so instantly from any position.

Honestly I don't mean to denigrate Pac's performances here, I just don't think he's beaten as varied an assortment of styles as Floyd and I think he has more stylistic vulnerabilities than Floyd. Namely fast setting right crossers. I think Floyd will handle him easily.

They are both tremendous fighters... Pacquiao's achievement of moving up so far in weight from where started and winning several times in downright alarming fashion gives him a greater list of achievements... but Floyd has dominated some very good fighters, especially in his earlier career...

I could see someone getting picky about what Floyd has done at 147, but go back to 130 and he's one of the best ever at that weight, in my opinion

Pacquiao is better in terms of the staggeringly decisive things he has done as he has moved up the weights, but Mayweather was one of the greatest junior lightweights ever at the very least and has dominated several times at these higher weights against good, if not great opposition

They are both great fighters, anyone who says otherwise is hating

I'm not sure what the argument is right now. Are we talking achievements, or ability?

If it's the former, I truly see no defense for Mayweather --- & again, I am quick to defend him when those who dislike the man intensely gloss over what was a brilliant first-half to his career. In truth, I'm of the opinion, too, that his, "cherry-picking" is worthy of a little more credit than it often gets, even if it has been suspect at times.

There was a fellow I used to know who said to me a couple of times back in the day, "If the martians landed tomorrow, it'd be huge news. By next week, nada."

The point is a valid one about people & how quickly even dramatic events become routine & downplayed. In this case, Pacquiao's a guy who has done extraordinary things --- inconceivable things, really --- but so accustomed has he made us to his feats, we consider it normal.

"Oh, he's a 147lber, of course he won." It's frustrating, because we all saw the freakish things he did, but so many just seem to forget along the way how impossible it was for this guy to hang with Barrera & Morales...he caned them both. I remember that being difficult to believe. Since, he's gone all the way to Welter, beating De La Hoya, Hatton, Cotto, Clottey --- the first time I heard the idea of a fight with Hatton (floated when Pacquiao was still at 130lbs) it was met with universal howls of laughter.

Enjoy it, because it will be a mighty long time before you see anyone do what Pacquiao has done again, that much weight, that many linear titles, that many impossible men. Absolutely no way, no how, is it bettered by Mayweather's career to date.

When the "0" is still there after a 12 year career and titles in 5 divisions....

I will admit I was a fan for some time. For one thing, he was (is, still to my eyes) beautiful to watch, but he was a different man before it all went to his head. I've mentioned this before, but I remember vividly his exclamation after one fight in chasing down Joe Louis' record. "One down, twenty-five to go!" & you could see the kid meant it in heart-felt fashion. Then, legacy & pursuit of excellence at the highest levels truly meant something to him, even though revisionists will now label him as having always been arrogant to a fault.

He lost me a few years back.

Achievements are overrated. Undefeated records and PPV sales are what count. Not to mention the ability to carry an HBO 24/7 due to family dysfunction. Floyd's never been beaten, that's not easy these days. Manny fights top guys but he gets bruises and shit, look at Floyd's face after the Mosley fight, after the JMM fight, after any fight.

Besides Manny has loses Floyd doesn't. What has Manny accomplished that Floyd hasn't? Fighting Cotto, and Clottey is no different than Floyd fighting JMM and Mosley except Floyd doesn't get bruises. Did I mention the guy has never lost? Floyd's the shit, plus he's black and I like that because I'm black too. So yeah, it's Floyd.
