I think that we as fans need to bring it to the attention of Bob Arum that we have no desire in a Pac-Cotto rematch or a Pac-Margarito match.

There really is no reason for a Pac - Cotto rematch. Cotto still has a future as a top fighter so long as he just stays away from this fight. He could campaign at 154 and be very successful. I can't see Arum taking this fight because it would be a cash out fight for Cotto and Cotto really is not at a point where he needs to cash out.

A Pac-Margarito fight would be a slaughter. Margarito is way too open. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a one round destruction. Arum may be ready to cash out on Margarito so this is the direction that I think he is going to try and take us.

This would then lead to Pac - Chavez early next year if Chavez somehow gets past Pavlik. I think that this is what Arum is devising.

I would much rather see Pac either drop to 140 and take on the likes of Bradley, Alexander, Maidaina, and Judah OR stay at 147 and fight Berto. These fights are much more interesting.

A Tim Bradley fight would suffice.

Bradley's no pay per view presence.

If the end goal is still a Mayweather fight with an even split, a dip in ppv buys isn't exactly a big help.

Bradley's #1 contender is Victor Ortiz, both are So. Cal based...if HBO is serious about the 140-pound division, they could push that fight.

Bradley's beaten some good opponents, Junior Witter, Kendall Holt, Nate Campbell...but there's plenty of fights left in that division.

An article on this made CNN/SI which is somewhat uncommon for boxing fare:

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/mma/boxing/07/17/pacquiao.mayweather.ap/index.html?eref=sihp

Not a very informative article, since no details of the negotiation are revealed, and any that are mentioned are glossed over with little commentary. However, I was surprised that Arum was holding his criticism this time around. I think he sees this within reach and doesn't want to blow it.

I was also surprised that Arum somehow thinks that uncle Roger's legal troubles are a motivating factor for Floyd's disappearance with regard to making this fight. Floyd is apparently making zero effort to get anything done, including not bothering to respond to genuine queries from Manny's camp. I suppose it could be true that Floyd is waiting to see what happens with "female fighter" Roger... but if that's the case, this fight will NEVER get done.

"Poor" Floyd needs to make a damn decision for once and just man up here. You either WILL fight or you will NOT fight. There will always be some personal issue clouding his unrestrained life and family. There is hardly a time that passes where some Mayweather isn't charged with some crime.

Pacquiao vs. Berto or Margarito would be interesting......Berto needs to step the fuck up soon. Those 140 pounders are NOTHING to Pacquiao or Mayweather. Fighting any of them would be a waste of time.

If either Pacquiao or Mayweather want to push for a fight they need to fight the next top Welterweight and at this moment those are still Berto, Margarito and Cotto...

Pac already fought/beat Clottey/Cotto...May took care of Mosley...next should be Berto/Marg

Fights at 140 between Pac and Maidana or at 147 between Pac and Berto would be all fireworks while they lasted. They both sound like much more fun than seeing Pac fight Cotto again or see him against the human heavy bag Margarito.

Is that the same 'human heavy bag' with wins over Cintron, Martinez, Cotto & Clottey? And a contentious loss to Williams? That human heavy bag?:dunno:

and Margarito deserves the fight, why?

To make it worse it will be for a vacant WBC belt at 154 where Pac has never fought and Margarito has had one fight since his suspension.

I'd rather see Pac drop to 140 and clean everyone out...at least pave the road for Amir Khan who he'll never fight.

I don't ever care to see Floyd and Pac fight. Ever. Both wasted nearly a year with this shit.

The fight with Cotto is a great display of why I called him a human punching bag. The guy has zero defense. I never said he wasn't a contender as his iron chin and relentless style will always make him a difficult fight, but this does not mean that the guy has anymore of a defense than a heavy bag.

With your comment; I question if you have seen those fights? A contentious loss to Williams? Are you serious? That fight was not close. Williams won hands down. Not to mention that more likely than not, Margarito was using loaded gloves for each of those fights mentioned. Clottey was also quite successful with peek-a-boo jabbing style until he was injured. Martinez was green so how much stock can we really put into that win?

The Williams fight was not one-sided. Margarito was chasing Williams out of the ring the last half of the fight, landing the cleaner, harder shots, and forcing Williams to hold incessantly.

It was not one-sided, but it was a very clear Williams victory. It was not contentious at all and I have never heard anyone who has scored the fight for Margarito.

Ok. But I think the point is, Margarito gave a good account of himself in that fight against an opponent that is highly regarded. Suspicion over his hand-wraps aside, his performance in that fight established him as a credible opponent.

I personally feel that Margarito won't be half the fighter he was now that he's legal, but it's yet to be determined.

    Doesn't matter.

Magarito simply doesn't deserve it. Fuck him in the ass.

I think you all are missing my point. I never said that he wasn't a credible opponent (though what has he done lately?). I said that he is a human punching bag. The guy has zero defense and Pac would just blow him away.

I'm not sure this fight is even a real option anyhow. Margarito can't get licensed within the States and I can't see Pac fighting outside of the States.

I am hoping they give some consideration to a Maidana fight. That would be explosive. Both guys can bang and both are there to be hit.
