it was sloppy but entertaining, some big punches were landed....

but, my father and I are English and huge fans of Lennox Lewis... it would have been his last fight and against a significant opponent. only reason we didn't go to the first one is because we thought he was fighting Kirk Johnson the whole time

hate to be the one to bring it up - but for Women's boxing it was tragic that Luicia Rijker vs. Christy Martin never got made in their (close to) primes. Would have been the biggest women's boxing match(es) ever

..and to a lesser extent, Anne Wolfe - Laila Ali. I'm not a fan of women's boxing but as a professional sport its momentum was particularly hurt by these fights not getting made. It seems to survive primarily now on universum/sauerland undercards. It will be interesting to see if the inclusion of amateur women's boxing in the london olympics makes any difference.

Surely that would have been Laila Ali vs Ann Wolfe (unless they DID fight I am just ignorant)

Women's boxing is as pointless as the WNBA.

Physical sports is for men..and men only. No one wants to see the weaker sex compete.

Also..it's a matter of time before Women's boxing gets banned. People wont be as tolerant if fatalities start occurring in that sport as they are for the men.

It just got it's Olympic invite.

In I guess, somewhat related news, a female kickboxer did just pass away after a fight on Sunday.

Nah....that fight would be sorta of an event because of Laila's last name....but if the Laila vs. Frazier daughter fight wasn't a big deal neither would Ali vs.Wolfe...

Plus, Anne Wolf vs. Ali. Laila sure's hell wasn't her father. All she did was duck competition.

I'm not sure there's a potential for that - not only do women not hit as hard as men (although women's skulls are made of the same shit as men's), but also, women have a much lower tolerance for pain.

I don't think it's that women aren't good athletes - I just think as with every other area of public life, women have it in their minds that anything men do, they can do, and against all evidence it's not true, they're under the impression they have a right to all of the success and recognition that goes along with it. They're in for a painful realization - the WNBA will fold, women's boxing and MMA will go nowhere, and they will still claim it's because they're women (ignoring the short-comings and/or misplaced talents that go along with being a woman competing in sports that men invented).

imagine if tyson didnt go to jail and morrison didnt get his head taken off by mercer in '91. title or no title, tyson vs. morrison would've been huge.

TAMPA, Fla. — A woman died Tuesday after being pummeled in an amateur boxing bout, and police opened an investigation into the fight.
"We are trying to determine the criminality of it," police spokesman Jay Frank said.
Stacy Young, 30, suffered swelling and bleeding in the brain during Saturday night's Toughman (search) bout.
She was disconnected from life support Tuesday afternoon after being declared brain dead Monday night at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, hospital spokesman Bill Hervey said. Hospital represenatives at one point Tuesday prematurely reported her death when she was still on life support....
