I just watched the jacobs fight on youtube. Never heard of him before. Pretty impressive . Also the guy sure likes to showboat Round 4 he was constantly egging Jacobs on ! And the knockout was a thing of beauty going orthodox to southpaw back to orthodox followed by the boom! All in one swift motion across the ring. Pirog vs Korobov would be a good all russian middleweight match up ! <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/cOGQIe2Wdr4&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cOGQIe2Wdr4&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/fJFzmx50X9Q&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/fJFzmx50X9Q&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
I think he's good. Good enough to be a threat to anyone at 160. Well, I think Martinez would be all wrong for him. But I'd actually give him a chance at beating Pavlik. But the BEST fight to be made is Pirog vs Lemeuix! That fight HAS to happen.
Yea Martinez would be too much for him at this stage, but I was impressed, he's fun to watch and has a bit of an attitude in there which is always entertaining. I'm a Korobov fan and yea I'd like to see that match up in the future.
I saw Omar Henry hit Jacobs flush at Savannah's with his best shots, and never had the kid close to the floor. That Pirog is one tough son of a gun and hits like a Mack truck. Karl
I'm not saying he wins, but I think Pirog actually has an ideal style to beat Martinez. He applies educated pressure, doesn't load up, has good defense, appears to be durable, and can counter. I'd like to see Pirog/Martinez. With the dearth of talent there is at 160, I don't know how a boxing fan wouldn't want to watch Martinez/Pirog.
I really like hit style. Fluid, great head movement, constantly working, good power, and seems to have a little bit ofvan aggressive attitude. Looking forward to seeing more of him.
Jacobs is a typical front runner who lay there like he was shot then tried to jump up and complain. That being said Pirog could fight and has a good chance against Martinez or any middleweight for that matter.
I've liked Pirog and have been teasing the Irishman about him for a while,.. but I wasn't impressed with him this time,.. he didn't land enough to be impressive, he executed half of his game 'reasonably' well, but did not blend his pressure with actual punches enough, frankly, Jacobs boxed his arse off for the majority of the fight, it came down to tangibles,.. and that's what let Jacobs down, I dont think his chin is very good,...I must also insist that Pirog is NOT a puncher,.. but if you stay on the ropes, and allow anyone to take a run-up hail mary shot square to the head,.. it'll make a monster out of average power.
I think Jacobs layed there like that because he was out cold for a few seconds which is what the commentators said. It also explains the ref immediately waving the fight off. I like Pirog too but 2 things: (1.) Jacobs bounced off the rope right into Pirogs punch so that might have helped a bit with the KO. (2.) I noticed Pirog get a bit ineffective and lose a rd once Jacobs gave him a bit of movement so that might be a weakness for him. Besides all that I like the guy and think he could beat Martinez too.
If Pirog is wise, he'll stay away from flashy mover types, I do think Martinez would do him,.. but HBO would probably not be interested in an all Euro showdown,.. Stylistically Pirog would have a better chance against Williams,.. but will not win,.. with the amount of punches Paul throws Pirog would be too buisy twisting around like a rubiks cube.
Yeah, I absolutely loved his performance vs. Jacobs. Can't wait to see him again. I'm going to pick up some of his other fights to see how consistent he is. But very impressed so far.
