It was Lampley who used to go on about Lennox Lewis' physique, among others.

Oddly, I think that Lampley may have had a point.

People look at vital stats and think, oh, so-and-so are the same size, therefore they are about evenly matched, physically.

Manny Steward pointed out to McCall before he fought Lewis that there waas a world of difference between the respective strength of the two men, despite the fact that McCall measured up well against Lewis.

Lewis was an incredibly well-build dude.

Well, yeah, he wasn't built like Lionel Butler...and that's the kind of opponent where physique might become a topic...but Lampley used to bring it up in a number of his fights, and if anyone had enough interest in the subject to actually catalog some of Lampley's comments on the subject over the years, they'd find some.

I am assuming Lionel Butler was around 6'3", 215lbs.....as you know, fat heavyweights only appeared in the last few years. :nono:

Yes. Why? Did Larry and Jim and Harry tell you to come take it down?

HBO's Propaganda has been so pervasive that otherwise rational people are now confusing heavyweight prize fights with marathon races. :hump:

Again, turn the volume off, folks.

You will enjoy the fights a lot more.

    Tonight was a prime example...

Going on and on about what Dawson should be doing in a wishful manner. They were pretty overt about rooting for Dawson, aside from Larry's comment about if Chad were a world class fighter he was Barbara Walters:popcorn:.

My point is, ANNOUNCE the damn fight; tell us what IS happening in the ring, not what you wish was happening, as your HouseBO fighter is getting waxed.

Going on and on about how Pascuel was gassed, while Chad went rounds without throwing shit, obviously gassed himself.

Harold tried in round two, then Larry/Steward disagreed and he went a bit overboard in the other direction. After that horrible showing last week, when he didn´t get the subtle hints from Papa and Max, he reacted quickly this time.

Oh well, and I've been reading garbage about it for years as well.

Check your classic boxing writers: Liebling, Mailer, Cannon, Lardner, London, Hemingway -- they all said the same thing about fighters like Joe Louis, Max Baer, Tony Janiro, Harry Greb, Billy Conn, Jim Corbett, Sugar Ray Robinson (Ferdie Pacheco called him the "Errol Flynn of boxing") Georges Carpentier, sharp looking guys that could really fight, and won the imagination of at least a portion of the boxing and female world over.

The posters that jump out with posts about latent homosexual referrals and jokes about gays are most likely the ones who are actually latent, or practicing homosexuals themselves, and their defense mechanism kicks in and they get behind a keyboard and then there you have it. I don't have a problem with someone being gay, it's not my lifestyle and never has been or will be, I love women, Latin Women are my preference.

Juan is as straight as an arrow, as I have been telling several jerks here for 6 years now, has a good looking two year old son with a beautiful young lady, and does not let shit like what has been posted here bother him in the least, he does not even address it as he does not follow message boards, he's far too busy.

I would... but then you can't hear the punches or the crowd. It just takes too much away from the experience.

I have heard this before, Andrew, and here is my answer: Think of the early 50's when guys like Marciano, Robinson, Bratton, Ike Williams, Charles and Walcott, etc. where fighting all of the time on television, and all of the crowds used to gather on the sidewalk to watch the fights in storefront display windows as few had televisions back then.

That was what was so intriguing to me about those days, you didn't need the commentators, you don't hear them at the fights in person, and the punches sound nothing like they do on television with the advanced sound technology, they still sound like leather on skin, not the whoosh sound effects put in.

Yeah, that's a fair point. But from the perspective of a younger fan like myself, who knows nothing else, it really takes away for me.

As an example, the sound crapped out on my HBO feed of Johnson/Cloud a couple of weeks ago. No sound from round six on. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I would have. All the sounds that come with a boxing telecast are just part of the show for me. Part of the excitement.

    To each his own, bro.

The study agrees with you, Karl! Im always deeply suspicious of homophobes or people who take their 'straightness' mortally seriously (which is not to say Cdogg is one at all, he's just jesting with you). It's all classic projection type stuff....

I've said this for YEARS...I don't speak spanish so I always watch the spanish HBO feed. I thought it was a good fight and didn't have the misfortune of listening to the HBO crew until the next day.

I'd prefer to not have commentary actually...I forget which fight but I think I have the Thrilla In Manilla without the commentary...just the sounds as captured ringside...it's awesome to watch...far more entertaining.
