    Toney was a counter-punching genius.

It is almost cruel to see such a gifted fighter burdened with whatever mental short-comings compel him toward being consistently overweight.

The true master of making a fighter miss, then pay.

Prime Toney vs Prime Hopkins at 168 pounds would have been a true display of skill for sure.

I was checking his (Toney's) record on boxrec and I wasn't aware that he lost to Montell fucking Griffin. TWICE :bangh:

Those were tough fights to score too. Some people feel Toney won both fights. I honestly can't remember how i scored them (you know you are getting old when...) but they were damn close and i remember them both being very intriguing style/chess matchups.

James Toney also lost to Drake Thadzi. He also should have lost to David Tiberi, and probably to Reggie Johnson as well.

Does anyone know why Toney is actually taking this fight with Coutoure? It can't be money...

It would have been a display of Toney beating the shit out of a Hopkins that would try to foul, cheat, rob, lie, and play-dead his way out of trouble.

Toney has beaten guys that Bernard wasn't good enough to lose to.

Hopkins is the worst "legend" of all time.

Toney was a BEAUTIFUL counterpuncher... but I was shocked and dismayed to see how many of you foolishly thought he belonged in a thread a few months ago about fighters who do "EVERYTHING" well in the ring... UTTER BULLSHIT

Toney NEEDED his opponent to be aggressive or else he had MAJOR FUCKING PROBLEMS

He should never be mentioned within a light year of such a list

Yes! Most of my counters and in-fighting comes from study of over 40 JT fights. He also has a very effective and speedy jab. Throws it up through the guard. Notice after counter or miss he touches the body well.

If you fight Chris Henry hopefully you can make it a repeat of Toney-Barkley. :partie:
