According to Boxrec, Wladimir weighed 244 for the first fight, a 3lb (-) difference, and Peter weighed 243, a 2lb (+} difference.

At 241, Peter is 12 pounds lighter than when he fought VITALI, not Wlad.

 

Peter is a banger, has the classic puncher's chance, much like Big Cat Williams.

Well.........let's see.....ol Cleve showed up in England for a fight and then refused to take it, saying that he had a premonition. He left and returned to America.

English papers mocked him by printing cartoons of a heavily muscled man hiding behind his bedsheets.

I do know that Cleveland was going through a hard time in the final stages of his career, and took quite a beating from George Chuvalo and a couple of real brutal losses to Mac Foster.

I think it probably was because he was in a lot of pain then as Dick Richardson was certainly no world beater, and the man lived in agony due to that gunshot wound.

I don't know Karl. Dick Richardson had his last fight in 1963, and Cleveland was shot in either late 1964 or early 1965, so it would appear that this incident happened before the shooting incident, rather than after it.

That's an atrocious thing to do, it certainly is. Total primadonna behaviour. Well, he had to be threatened with permanent banning from boxing by the state athletic commissioner here and cursed out by Bob Arum just to get him out of the dressing room that night to fight Ali, so I believe it.

He held up the fight by around 30 minutes as it didn't get started until after 10 pm ET on a work night.


Williams was always a bit of a loose cannon, and had an alcohol problem, big time, and made a number of enemies as he had a mean streak in him.

He wound up working in a construction yard in Southwest Houston until he got too sick to do the hard work, and then lived with his son until he was run over by a car and killed in the medical district.

There is no doubting that he was one of the top ten punchers ever though, and he would have knocked out either Patterson or Johannson had he been afforded his rightful opportunity for a title shot.

 

Well all fighters have a meanstreak. Alcohol augments that problem.

I don't know why Izenberg {Jerry Izenberg} had to say that there was "no apparent reason" for the shooting of Williams.

Williams always maintained that he bore "no ill will" to the officer concerned, and that the officer had merely been "doing his job". Williams had been in a motor vehicle leading up to the shooting and conceded that there was alcohol involved.

Eitherways that shooting would have killed most normal men. Doctors who operated on Williams believed his thick torso is what kept him from being killed. A .357 at point blank range is no joke.
