    Pascal-Hopkins on PPV

SHOWTIME PPV lands fight December 18

In a special SHOWTIME Pay Per View event, World Boxing Council 175-pound titleholder Jean Pascal (26-1, 16 KOs) meets former world light heavyweight and middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins (51-5-1, 32 KOs) for the WBC light heavyweight title on December 18 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. SHOWTIME Sports will produce and distribute the fight, and utilize its own announcers. The PPV event will begin at 9 p.m. ET/PT. It is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.

Somebody tell me why Hopkins never made a fight with Dawson but it seems he made one with Pascal after 2 minutes of negotiating....??

Thinking the same thing. I'm disgusted. Hopkins will probably win this fight too, won't he?

Nope, Hopkins doesn't do as well against speed and athleticism both which Pascal has in abundance. As long as Pascal throws more and is not as selective he'll win this fight I think.

Hopkins will win, he ducked Dawson because he didn't want to deal with his boxing/defense.

Pascal is modest matchup for him at this point.

Now I might order Mosley/Mora... so when this comes around, I can say I'm not ordering it, and I ordered Mosley/Mora.

Horrible fight. I never want to see Hopkins fight a young exciting fighter ever again.

Even though he's picking his battles, you've gotta begrudgingly admire Hopkins still fighting top guys. But this fight is proper fucking awful for the sport. Dawson fought terribly against Pascal but could certainly win a rematch easily and reestablish himself as a guy with a big future. He's the most talented guy under 30 around, and we need his to get his shit together and start owning that huge potential. Instead we get a 45 year old stinking out a win over the guy who beat him (in what I consider a fluke fight, though one entirely of Dawson's own culpability) then freezing Dawson out for the foreseeable.

I just hope Dawson gets to redeem himself against Pascal as soon as possible & the fight will be considered meaningful when it happens. First time ever - I'll be hoping Hops loses this.

the clause allowed Pascal to make one freebie defense before its enforced...thats why Pascal picked Hopkins so he could at least get a big payday before having to fight Chad again.

He may live to regret that. If Hops can still stand up straight without a zimmer, he'll have too much smarts for a swinger like Pascal.

Looking at Hops pathetic display against RJ and Calslappy I have to assume that speed throws Hops off his game. Pascal is a swinger and all but the fight is in Montreal and Pascal is fast as can be with his combos and doesn't get tired like he used to earlier in his career. Hops is so old and slow I have a real hard time seeing him winning this fight. If the odds are good I'm laying down some money on this.

Hope you're right. The ideal scenario for me is Hops putting on a respectable display but losing. And retiring. But honestly, Im picking Hopkins.

I would like to see Hops stopped...it would give boxing a shot in the arm and make the 168-175 divisions that much more popular.

:Giggle: I have to say the present day boxer isn't nearly as aggressive as past specimens.

Forget aggressive, Dawson's performance against Pascal was down right fucking fatalistic. Reminded me of the rabbit Silverweed's poem in watership down.

    'Where are you going stream?
    far far away
    take me with you stream
take me on you dark journey'

If Dawson was lying on the raft and noticed a waterfall looming, I quite believe he'd just take his chances and see how it went. If he found a tumor on his foot he'd go the same way as Bob Marley.

I hope I never see another performance so pathetic in a boxing ring ever again. Truly the worst I've seen relative to ability in 11 years watching the sport.

Aye, I can see those straight counters & footwork making Pascal look like a novice. That said, there were times he made Calzaghe look exceedingly ordinary, but Calzaghe was able to squeek it out (on the cards at least) by just tiring Old Pops Hops out. And that was 3 years before this takes place.

    We'll see....:scratcher:

I actually think Hops is fighting to his opponents levels if he's a big favourite, such as his last two fights, I believe he has more left than it seems. Calzaghe won clearly in my eyes but Hopkins did make him look bad for sure. I really wouldn't be shocked to see Hopkins give Pascal a bit of a schooling.

Hut what did you make of Clev the other night? You got a fella there who wants to take his opponents out.

Pascal needs to pressure him. Hops has no stamina left. He can't go more than 6 rounds before huffing, puffing, grabbing and acting like a girl who wants out of the fight.

The good thing about this fight is that no matter who wins it will enhance Roy's legacy.

I can't forget about Pascal wobbling all over the ring against Omar Pittman on the same card that Edison Miranda fought on. The two were supposed to fight I thought, but Miranda KO'd David Banks and Pascal got spooked by Pittman and it never happened.
