Chavez Jr will be facing former Cotto KO victim Alfonzo Gomez for the WBC Silver middleweight belt on December 11. That leaves Cotto without an opponent. Who he should fight next? The winner of Pacquiao-Margarito? or just one of the other champions? or just the mandatory challenger?:dunno:

Let's put this in proper perspective - Cotto chose to pull out of the card altogether. It wasn't for the lack of an opponent, it's because he didn't care for any of the names mentioned.

I have to admit, I lost a little bit of respect for Cotto after pulling out of this date. A fight with Kermit Cintron would've been a perfectly fine stay-busy fight. Instead, he's all but admitted that he's in the cash-out stage of his career.

He's had as hectic a schedule as anyone on the star level, and it's understandable to step back. But by that, I figured he'd still at least give us two fights per year. To be content with a 12-month campaign that boasts Yuri Foreman as your only fight isn't very promising for whatever the future has in store for the rest of his career.

    He turned down Vanes too.

Vanes might as well get it on with Kermit the frog. The two of them were going back n forth shit talking eachother on the scene, so fight!

Too much politics and talk in the sport now... not enough action.

And I was thinking that an Angulo-Cotto matchup made the most sense, but guess that fight cant be made anymore.

Angulo getting deported means shit. The fight can easily be made in Mexico or he can follow the proper channels to fight in the US. Being deported doesn't mean he'll never be allowed to fight in the US.

Berto is fighting on the Marquez-Kat card, against it looks like Freddy Hernandez. Its a fight Berto should win, but Hernandez has some pop in his right hand so I'll be kinda intrigued.

But yes, Berto-Cotto is a fight that should happen.

I guess a good opponent would have been Floyd but much like his uncle he's got issues with the law now.

Jeez Berto still hand picking his opponents hunh? What a fucking hype job that guy is. If they asked him he'd probably say he'll be ready to fight the cream of the division in a couple more years.

If anyone has the right to take a break it's Cotto. He has taken allot of damage and I think this rest will be good for him.

Really? Why is that? He's one of the few fighters that dosent duck fighting the best. He's a warrior in the ring win or lose.

Cotto has one of the best resumes in the game right now, in terms of who he's faced. I don't think anyone can criticize him for taking the second half of the year off. Having said that, I really would've loved to see Cotto vs. Cintron - I think it would've been a great fight.

I think part of it had to do with El Perro simply being one dimsensional, but at his best I think he woulda stopped Froggy late.

Fuck Cintron is right though. He and Vanes should battle it out to decide who's the bigger fraud.

First of all a fight with Cintron would not generate not even half of the revenue the fight with Chavez Jr would had. At this stage of his career Cotto is looking for a few big fights before retiring. Second: Cotto had a surgery done on his shoulder just this past July and he hasn't been training. For Chavez Jr he would have fought with only one good shoulder and win easy. Against Cintron he needs to be in top form. Maybe they will eventually fight after Cotto heals completely and Cintron wins another belt.

That might not ever happen again. A guy like Lara is just about ready to give Kermy the frog the business.

Any fringe contender can win an alphabet belt these days. Look a Cesar Chavez Jr. He will be handed a middleweight belt without ever facing a top ten opponent.

Driving across country shouldn't be that big of a deal unless it was done at least 2 days prior to the fight. Angulo's people were making the claim that Angulo was sick and never mentioned him driving across country (probably for good reason).
