Nov 6th on the Lopez-Marquez undercard. Makes no fuckin sense to me. I say just the winners of Dirrel-Ward and Froch-Abe fight, and lets be done with this cursed tourney already. Johnson and Green BOTH need to go away. One hasnt been good for a few years, and the other was always a bum. I personally cant stand stand either one, so I dunno who the hell I'll root for, but I do question how old man Glen is gonna make 168 in about month, when his ass was 192 when he stepped into the ring vs Cloud! Go figure.
Is this at a catchweight? I can't believe for the life of me that Glen would make SMW again at age 41.
If there was a stipulation that the loser must never fight again i'd be more interested. In fact i think boxing in general could use more fights like that.
If Green cant beat a 41 year old, weight drained Johnson, then its really in his best interest to pull a Valero.
Dude, I think Johnson's earned our respect, whenever he decides to retire. My guess is, this is a promoters attempt to make the most of a Showtime date, with the goal of out-shining Cloud's less than spectacular victory. If Green ain't shit at 168 (which clearly he isn't), maybe through careful and opportunistic match-making he can be made to appear relevant at 175 (and they're not even fighting there either!).
It´s ridiculous. Glen will probably drain himself to death. Allan Green will knock him out for that exact reason and (if either Abraham or Ward win their bout) advance to the semi-final, and I´d say with a 90% probability, set up a rematch with Andre Ward for a semi-final. This only happens in non-soccer nations. Americans can´t think the standings and group stage implications through. It´s not in their blood like all the other nations. Oh and isn´t Glen Johnson also a Lou DiBella fighter. Boy Lou played Showtime for fuckin fools. He got Jermain Taylor a nice retirement package, probably with the cold blooded calculation, that Abraham would knock him cold. Had Allan Green set up as the first replacement into the tournament, got him in without even the box-off against Bika. And now he has set-up a bout between Green and Johnson knowing that a KO win either way, will send the winner into the semi-final. :shit::shit:
great replacement, the only thing I'm worried about is if Glen still able to make 168lbs without draining himself. My guess is he can, he never was a big lhw and while he's on the way down, he still gave Cloud a very very tough fight. Should be good enough to beat Green who has been very disapointing.
After Ward beat Green he told Ward he needed to go to 175...I'm thinking Green is having trouble making the weight. I'm not excited about this one either....as much as I'm sick of Johnson I think if the fight gets into the later rounds he wears down Green. Can't see Green doing well with pressue based on the way Ward manhandled him on the inside.
For real, I can't believe people are suggesting that Green might actually knock Glen out. Green will catch a whooping here.
Purely based on Glen being 41 years old and not having made 168 since 2000, especially if he was 192 on fight night against Cloud. Anyway this fight will likely end by KO either way and one of them will get into the semi-final over a fighter that has participated in all three (tough) fights. Dirrell beating Abraham and possibly losing two SDs to Froch and Ward doesn´t beat out Glen Johnson stopping Allan Green? :tick: That is a significant flaw.
I guess if Glen sheds weight like Chris Byrd he could get stopped but I doubt it. Green just isn't that good. The whole tournament is a piece of shit now. It was great on paper, but the way it's turned out is dissapointing. Letting anyone in late was unfair to begin with. Either you start at the beginning with everyone else or you don't deserve to be in the tourney.
Green is going to stand there all night refusing to do anything. Johnson is going to stand there all night trying to do something. Eventually Johnson will get tired or succumb to dehydration.
You don't come in at 173 all the time if you're hurting to make 175. I think he can make 168. I've changed my mind on the fight, too. I want one of them to qualify for the semifinals so that the fight isn't pointless. If the other four guys make the semis, the semis will either have to be all rematches, or the finals will have to be a rematch, or whatever...but it will be awkward.
Fuck this. Let's say Abraham beats Froch by a questionable split decision and weight-drained Johnson quits because of an ankle injury. This means that Froch will drop out from semis after beating Dirrell and losing questionably to two top contenders while Green walks to the semis after being humiliated by Ward and winning this shit fight
What you want if often bad for boxing, this is nothing new. Yes, wouldn't a semi with Alan Green be amazing?
Good point, but try this instead: Fuck this. Let's say Ward beats Dirrell by a questionable split decision and weight-drained Johnson quits because of an ankle injury. This means that Dirrell will drop out from semis after beating Abraham and losing questionably to two top contenders while Green walks to the semis after being humiliated by Ward and winning this shit fight. Only reason I use that example is because if Froch and Dirrell both lose, Froch makes the semis. The only way Froch doesn't make it is if he loses, Dirrell wins and Green/Johnson fight ends in KO.
