I tend to just exclude everyone prior the the 30s because segregation makes judging guys too difficult. Plus I don't think the sport matured technically until about the mid 30s at the earliest.
I always liked Duran to eek out a contentious decision in that one. I don't think it'd be a particularly satisfying bout to watch.
One suspicion I have is that Whitaker may have to win more covincingly on the cards than he can against a fighter of Duran's calibre --- if Whitaker beat Duran (as I expect he would've), he wouldn't likely have done so with much room to spare, which would be a concern. Any hint of a close decision & the ever-popular Duran would certainly have the rub of the green.
I agree with you. Every time he faced masterful boxers he lost. We can't forget he lost to the "Bible of Boxing" Wilfred Benitez. Wait, I don't watch boxing. :giggle:

1. Robinson 2. Armstrong 3. Ali 4. Ezzard Charles 5. Duran 6. Whitaker or Leonard (ray) I wont put a guy like Greb on there because I cant see him and that bothers me... that said, his record speaks for itself, he is obviously a major legend in the history of the sport and deserves to be lauded for his achievements and my list takes everything into account... its not just who-beats-who... personally, I think Whitaker would beat Duran, but Duran has the more varied breadth of work and a longer run as the 135 pound champ, as well as more than twice as many fights

Greb is another one that makes mY dick itch. Tommy Loughran must have been a super stud. Why should Greb be rated above Tunney?
because greb bested him twice out of however many times they fought and tunney was naturally bigger? but honestly, who gives a shit?
Duran would have been smashed. It would have looked like Yori Boy Campas vs. Tito. Tito would have treated him like a human pinata. Cupey
I corrected my list to reflect the brain cramp that caused me to neglect to place Ezzard Charles on my top 5
