De la Hoya vs Hatton? By Gabriel F. Cordero Some sources report that there is a possibility that ring legend and now successful boxing promoter Oscar de la Hoya could climb back into the ring to face Britain’s Ricky Hatton after two years of inactivity. Both are coming off losses to Manny Pacquiao. Supposedly G has made a proposal to Hatton for a possible clash during fight week for David Haye vs Audley Harrison. Hatton has said repeatedly he would not fight again and recently lost his license after a cocaine scandal. www fightnews dot com
Please, no. I have & always will count myself a fan of De La Hoya's, & for that reason alone, I hope he resists the lure of the ring. I don't worry for his health against an effectively-retired Hatton (has he officially announced that he's done?), but it would be an embarrassing spectacle --- the second in as many outings for a once-grand champion.
Man, DLH is a cunt. Hatton is way out of shape, has a cocaine addiction and is happily retired. If he wants to come back, fight someone with a pulse.
Color me uninterested. Watching 2 washed up superstars is no better than watching 2 average fighters fight, and I am no longer the fan I used to be who could sit and watch 2 average guys fight for 10 rds. That said... ROBERT DIAZ: NO TRUTH TO DELA HOYA VS HATTON <TABLE id=AutoNumber1 style="BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" borderColor=#111111 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="70%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%"></TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%"></TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">By Rick Reeno Robert Diaz, matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions, reached out to BoxingScene.com to set the record straight on the widespread story which claimed Diaz had approached Ricky Hatton with an offer to fight Oscar De La Hoya. According to Diaz, not only is the story not true, but the statements, attributed to Diaz in the British press, were never made. Diaz did attend last Saturday's fight between David Haye and Audley Harrison at the MEN Arena in Manchester, and he did spend time with Hatton during the fight week of Haye-Harrison, but the two of them never discussed the possibility of a ring return. "There is no truth to it. I did spend some time out there for the David Haye fight and I did spend a lot of time with Ricky. We spoke about family and soccer and food and we joked around, but we never spoke about boxing. We never discussed him coming back. There were even reporters who came up to me and asked me if I want to see Ricky back. As a fan, I said that I would like to see Ricky come back, but that decision can't be made by me. Ricky is the one who has to make that decision," Diaz told BoxingScene.com. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
I know your response comes as a fanboy of DLH who wants his ex-hero to come out of a fight unscathed. Exactly what I DON'T want
Nonsense De La Hoya would return if he can guarantee himself an easy fight, a victory, and 20+ million for himself... I think he would rather fight Margarito or Cotto since those fight will generate more money...but those guys will still beat him up.
Where our allegiances lie is an aside, though. You're implying De La Hoya is being too selective with Hatton (fight won't happen anyway)? Hardly, given De La Hoya's state. I'm not even sure what kind of shape he's in right now. Several months ago, he'd stacked on a huge amount of weight.
