Not a bad card. Bonnar isn't physically able to be in anything other than a war so you know his fight will be entertaining. And I am actually interested to see Grove-Maia. I'm not sure how that one plays out.

And as I mentioned in the TUF thread, Johny Hendricks finally steps back in the cage against red hot Rick Story. This should be a great fight.

    Main card
    • Lightweight bout: Jonathan Brookins vs. Michael Johnson
    • Light Heavyweight bout: Stephan Bonnar vs. Igor Pokrajac
    • Middleweight bout: Demian Maia vs. Kendall Grove
    • Welterweight bout: Johny Hendricks vs. Rick Story
    • Featherweight bout: Nam Phan vs. Leonard Garcia

So the little asian boy moves down to featherweight ? So that would make that fight the debut of the invasion of the midget weights ?

Hmmm, well this card is certainly the debut. There are a couple of other featherweight fights on the non-televised portion of this card.

Embrace it Boss man. Don't fight it. Just give in dude.

I don't get how BOSS is a Pac fan but calls these guys midget weights.

Most FWs are as big as say...Shane Mosely.

    Actually that's true.

    MMA weights are ridiculous.

A featherweight is a boxing welterweight for fuck's sake :D

Hardly midgets. In fact, WW is basically the big money division in boxing these days.

But hey, Kaliber is probably just trolling.

With guys like Jose Aldo and Marlon Sandro, wouldn't shock me to see that trend applying to MMA as well.

Same here. Boxing is very different now from even the 80's and 90's, where HW was still the big mainstream division (but changing significantly, a lot of the famous 80's and 90's fighters are LW's/WW's/MW's).

Ironically the HW division in MMA is pretty good. Well Lesnar brought a lot of attention to it, but Cain is pretty legit.

But like boxing, I see a more consistent, sustained talent in the lower weights.

Apart from takedowns, I cant really see what Johnson does better than Brookins.

Johnson's standup is even worse. He has half decent speed and power, but he is so basic, and just throws these basic, looping MMA style punches. He basically has 1 style of punch, and it's not a jab, cross, or hook, or uppercut

Brookins has a bit more variety in his standup, better punches and kicks, he thinks about what he is doing more, even though his standup isn't very good.

Brookins will Completely OUTCLASS Johnson...Johnson is BALLSY & SOLID, but Not Particularly GOOD in Any Particular Regard...It Honestly Wouldn't Surprise REED if Brookins Ended this Shit in the 1st Round...

He's just THAT Much Better than Johnson, who SQUEAKED By Everybody he Fought, Other than Bruce LeRoy...

While Brooks is definately more talented, and will go further in his UFC career, i have a feeling Johnson wins today. BTW, johnson's standup is better than brookins. Brookins has no power. And doesnt like to throw punches.

if, If, IF Johnson's Stand Up is "Better", it's by DEFAULT, Given that Brookins PREFERS to Operate in Clinches &/or On the Ground...But Under NO Circumstances Should that B MISconstrued as Johnson having GOOD Stand Up, Because he DOESN'T...In Boxing, Roy Jones RARELY Tried to JAB, So U Could Name Plenty of Guys that had "Better" Jabs than Him...But Roy was Soooooooooo Effective WITHOUT a Jab that it was Silly to Penalize him for Underutilizing it...

Brookins will Obviously HAVE to Improve his Standup as he Moves Up the Ladder, but his Perceived Lack of Standup WON'T Hurt him Tonight...

REED Certainly DOESN'T Know Enough about MMA to Make BOLD Predictions, but in THIS Case, REED thinks Brookins EMBARRASSES Johnson in Quick Fashion OR Completely OUTCLASSES him, as he Did Kyle Watson...REED Doesn't See this Being a COMPETITIVE Fight @ All, Honestly...

    I agree with you REED.

It's true what you say too, Johnson has been squeaking past everyone, Brookins hasn't come close to losing a round.

Honestly, even though Johnson arguably won every round against Bruce Leroy, that was a close fight IMO. Each round was pretty close.

Plus Nam arguably beat Johnson. Especially when you consider Nam is a 145 pounder, and Johnson is a big 155 pounder, Nam should get the nod in a close round. Johnson was much bigger than him, and at best fought on even terms with Nam.

By the way, regarding Nam, have any of you guys seen his pre TUF fights?

He seems much better than his record suggests. Maybe his record is part of the reason why Godfather thinks he is "garbage".

He is 3 and 3 in his previous 6 fights, two of the losses by KO in the first round. Yet strangely, his chin seems fine. One of the losses is to a guy called Isaac, and Nam is his only win in his most recent 4 fights

One of the guys Nam beat in these 6 fights is Kadowaki, who has lost 4 straight. And another is a guy called Rodney who has a losing record.

So without doubt, Nam has a pretty scrubby record, but without question he looks like a solid fighter on TUF, especially when you consider he is probably the smallest guy in the group.

How do you guys rate his chances against Garcia?

It's funny that all the talk is about their stand up when in reality this fight will come down to whether or not Brookins can defend the double leg and control Johnson in the clinch.

Personally I think Brookins wins in the clinches and ends up on Johnson's back at some point and throws on the RNC.

Well, Leave it to Godfather, The OFFICIAL "Argument Police" of Fightbeat, to PICK Johnson Based on Having "Better" Standup while SIMULTANEOUSLY Stopping Short of Saying Johnson has GOOD Standup...If U're PICKING Johnson BECAUSE of his Standup, which Admittedly ISN'T Good, it Makes Others Wonder Why EXACTLY U're Picking that Individual in the 1st Place:lol:...

agREED w/U in that this Fight will have VERY LITTLE To Do w/Standup Prowess...

Pablo Garza and Paxiao was one of the most devastating KOs ever in the UFC.

    Paxiao almost seemed dead.

Nick Pace then proceeds to legitimately create a submission move by combining a triangle and a guillotine together.

Interesting start for the midget weights.
