Great talent. One of my favourite fighters of the 80s. IMO..he would have embarrassed Marvin Hagler had Marvelous fought him in 86 or 87. He was smooth, fast, decent power, good defense. A very elegant fighter and one of the most under-appreciated and underrated of all time.

Pair of overrated bums I agree. Especially Duran at Lightweight. Basically rubbish when you go beyond the hype.
I never said he was "rubbish". I'm just saying that he's invincible in Mythical Matchups. As is Hagler.
Prime Nunn vs current Martinez would be a compelling matchup. Nunn would have wiped his ass with Fall Paul, and Pavlik.
I've only seen the fight with James Toney. He was schooling Toney until Toney landed that shot at the end.
Nunn loses more Mythical Matchups than Marvin Hagler, and guess what, he was better than Hagler. So who's the most "overhyped" fighter on this board?
I began watching boxing big time just after the Toney fight so if he had exciting fights, they were then or earlier. Nunn was boring as hell to watch and his loss to the late Steve Little was pathetic as Little is my pick for the worst champion of all time.
He was a lot better at 160 than at 168, where yeah he was really boring. Very talented but I was never a fan of his.
His Ko win over Sumbu Kalambay was a shocker. Never saw that coming. Brilliant quick KO over a top fighter.
He was so not better than Marvin Hagler... that is a ridiculous opinion... the only person who thinks that is you and maybe Michael Nunn's mom Nunn was an excellent boxer, he is also given more credit for "woulda/coulda/shoulda" than anybody on this site... there's a reason that Duran at 135 doesnt lose many lightweight MMs, that reason is that he is at WORST the second best lightweight that ever breathed... there's a reason Hagler doesnt lose many 160 matches, he was a DOMINANT champion who beat the lion's share of the world's best middleweights BEFORE he even got a shot at the title... you cant tell me that Hagler gets too much love on this board when you have a lazy guy who should have had losses on his record to Reggie Johnson and Dave fucking Tiberi beating Marvin Hagler at 160 and actually get a couple of retards to agree with you (that lazy jerkoff also knocked out your boy, which explains why you would be trying to make him out to be an all-time great) Nunn was really good and would give any middlewieght difficulties because of his skills, his left handedness and his style... But he never proved in his life that he could beat a Hagler, Monzon, Hopkins level fighter... those guys were truly indisputably GREAT... Nunn did not achieve greatness... none of those guys would have an EASY time with him, but theyd all beat him because they were tougher, greater, more dtermined... they had the intangible qualities that the best of the best have
Nunn was erratic. He was, however, beating Toney until Toney laid the wood to him. Of course, that's like saying Dauthille was beating Lamotta until Lamotta crunched him. In the final analysis, it doesn't matter who was winning until the stoppage; it matters who GOT the stoppage. Anything else is speculation.
Nunn was beating Toney on the cards but was being broken down he was a pretty stupid fighter...in alot of fights he gave up all his athletic skills and advantages by fighting on the inside too much, and made fights much more difficult that they should have been he would have easily beaten Toney if he had just boxed and ran like he did in other fights
