I know Hopkins shouldn't have done this well and I know boxing fans are required to shit on Pascal's chest now. However I want to point it out that Hopkins is perhaps the best ever at taking away other guys advantages and find the way to win, he has made all his opponents look worse than they actually are. Thus, Pascal is not as bad as he seems after this, it is just Hopkins' mastery.

    Yep.

He doesn't stink fights out in the same way guys like Ruiz and Gainer but he still finds some subtle ways to make things ugly.

I don't always enjoy watching it but at the same time can't help appreciate it. It's a gruding respect.

If i was managing a bright exciting prospect i wouldn't let him anywhere near Bernard even if i was 99% sure he could beat him.

Other than a few body shots....Hopkins didn't do much to take any advantage that Pascal had....

    PAS is just GARBAGE....

After the first 4-5 round it look like Pascal just QUIT..or tried to conserve the lead he had build in those first few rounds.

Disagreed. Hopkins came forwards unlike most thought he would and did not allow Pascal to use his strategy to fight in spurts. Also, I haven't seen Hops throw that big body shots in years, they clearly took wind out of Pascal.

That is just what I am talking about: Hops does not appear to do anything special, but every time out his opponent, be it Pavlik, Calzaghe, Tarver, Joppy, Tito or whoever, appears much worse than in any other bout

Gotta agree with you UK. A few months ago Chad Dawson was a fucking bum, now Pascal is a fucking bum.

Fans wonder why boxers don't take as many chances anymore. It's the typical MO. You lose or don't look so good winning, drawing, whatever......... and you're a fucking bum.

    :shit:

That's why I commend Wladimir for fighting the way he does. If he gets stopped do you think people will applaud him and congratulate him on being such an entertaining fighter? Like fuck they will. Stink the joint out if you have to- but win.

It's Hard Pinpointing What it Is EXACTLY, but Bernard Does SOMETHING that Seems to DISARM Everybody he Faces...Even if Bernard Faced Windmilling, Volume Punchers on the Level of Aaron Pryor or Henry Armstrong, he'd Find SOMEfuckingWAY to LIMIT their Punch Output...

Bernard ISN'T the Fastest, Strongest or Hardest Punching Cat in the Mix; Instead, he Thrives in the INTANGIBLES....

As for the Pascal Fight, U HAVE to Give Bernard PROPS for THROWING MORE Punches & FORCING THE PACE Against a World Class Guy Nearly 20 Years YOUNGER....Last Night, Bernard was MORE Aggressive than he's Typically Been, Since the Tito Fight...

look at hopkins' storied two decade career. from beginning to end, he DOMINATED all but a few of his opponents and it wasn't until he was in his 40s where he began to lose more than four or maybe five CLOSE, COMPETITIVE rounds.

i know some can say jones or floyd is the most talented fighter ever and now there's pacquiao dominating bigger men, but hopkins' ability to dominate his opposition throughout the 90s and first five years of the 21st century is something no one will possibly ever match.

perhaps he wasn't as active as the likes of archie moore and jersey joe walcott, but unlike those two, he never got dominated nor KOed and probably never will.

plus, look at his competition in the last decade when he was already 40 years old. i know pacquiao and mayweather might have a few more years left in them to accomplish greater things, but right now, i still think hopkins is the most accomplished fighter in the last 20 years or so.

Roy Jones Jr. IS, WAS & ALWAYS WILL BE Regarded as the SUPERIOR Fighter, Joony....UNlike Bernard, Roy Jones was the Type of Fighter that OTHER Fighters Wanted to BE LIKE...He's the Guy they IDOLIZED...Bernard Hopkins is SUBTLE Greatness, whereas Roy's Greatness was All Up IN Your Face...It's like Comparing Gayle Sayers or Barry Sanders to Walter Payton....

    Big Difference, Homey...

Sven Ottke was soporific for sure but then again you have to remember that Paulie Malignaggi was just as bad and yet Paulie, who hasn't done a whole lot lately got an undercard slot on an expensive PPV card just last night.:eek:hno::eek:hno:

Why did Ottke do so well in Germany? Because he was a winner who fought often against above average talent and who was a perfect fit for the average German audience which is actually looking more for a night out at the fights than a bloodbath. Its a cultural thing. You don't have to like it, but its there, and every country has their own twist on it, their own variation on the theme.

I never understood the Ottke hate. For openers I would book the guy to have done NO WORSE than Jean Pascal did last night with the same version of Hopkins. Ottke fought Glen Johnson, Charles Brewer {twice}, Thomas Tate {twice}, James Butler, Anthony Mundine, Robin Reid, Mads Larsen, Byron Mitchell and none of them every came close to wiping him out. Sure he had some close run things, you might even call them hometown decisions {in fact I am sure you will } but in the two closest fights he had {Brewer and Tate} he gave both men rematches and he arguably looked no worse with Reid, when in a very advanced stage of his career, than prime Joe Calzaghe did.

Silvio Branco was beaten by Ottke in 2000 on a wide unanimous decision at 168. 9 years later Pascal managed a late rounds stoppage of the guy at 175. when Branco was like 43 years of age.

Jones was also an easier-to-like person, dog and chicken fighting aside. Jones arguably had more reason to start his pro career with a feeling of injustice or robbery but remained affable regardless. He crosses-over much better than Bernard, in fact Bernard is one of these people who cannot be brought anywhere. When Hopkins was filmed ringside at the Calzaghe-Jones fight, his response was this "finger across the neck" routine, which was predictably met by a chorus of boos. Hopkins is just not easy to like, Roy is. When I listen to Roy doing commentary, I get the feeling him and Lampley have known each other all their lives.

    Who I am? :shit:

at this point, much like payton over sanders/sayers, hopkins is more accomplished than jones jr.. though i consider jones jr. the greater fighter

Bernard's STYLE has Always Been More CONDUCIVE to Longevity than Roy's was, which is Why Bernard has "Accomplished" More, so to Speak (As Walter Payton "Accomplished" More than Sayers/Sanders)...But The FACT that Roy Made it to Mid 30's Before Being Removed from RELEVANCE Speaks Volumes about how GOOD/GREAT he was...

Like a James Toney Type, Bernard's Greatness is more SUBTLE...Bottom Line, Roy Jones was Better, Greater, Gooder (or However Else U Wanna Word it) than BOTH...

Props to Hopkins for the effort. Not bad for a 45 year old man.

payton was truly a team player who wanted to win and left it all on the field. sanders was a great runner of the football who lacked dedication and commitment to wining. in the long run it appears sanders wins since he's still alive.

I actually think Hops in the late 90s probably beats Roy. He'd figured out the Roy puzzle in the final 3rd of their first fight, IMO. I consider them on the same level as fighters.

gotta give props boxing in general for the last couple months. I mean yeah the Pac-PBB fight may or may not happen however these last couple of months have been hella exciting. Not to mention but I am looking forward to that Bradley/Alexander fight.

As far as this fight. I don't know if anyone predicted that BHop would taste the canvas twice but then press the action and in my eyes put forth an effort that he hasn't done in minute. I mean the dude competed against a younger fresher faster guy and damn near won. That's simply amazing. I mean try to compare that to other atletes in other sports. What do you think the MJ of today would do against Lebron James. Anyways great performance from BHop. He could given up when he was down early. He could have tried to stink the joint out with his mauling style. But instead he found a way which speaks volumes about his mental makeup @ 45. Got nothing but respect for BHop. I'll Holla 5000

If the roles were reversed, and Hopkins wasn't credited with a 3rd knockdown,.. do you think we would hear nothing of the sort?..

He only loses to prime Roy baby, and thats final. :shit::shit::shit::shit:
