Fernando doesn't have it in him to resist the urge to brawl, and that would eventually be his undoing in this one. Way up on the cards until he gets caught with something big late - and repeatedly - to end his night in dramatic fashion

vasquez was slow on his feet and had all he could handle from a young winky wright who's never gone past 12. i'd take vargas on points.

Hard to say. Stylewise it's a good one for Vazquez but i just think Vargas is a better overall fighter, would survive some rough spots and win a close decision.

    Good fight though.

How many fighters today can claim they've ever gone past 12?

oh ok gotcha. Damn I didn't even realize going in how young Wink was when he took that fight. I knew he was my age, but forgot that the fight happened so early in his career.

that was a great fight too. winky could've won if it werent for the slippery canvas although he was legitimately hurt in the 12th round.

It was the shoes, man. It was the shoes

At least that's what the excuse was years later whenever asked about it. He always contested it was something with the soles of his shoes. Tough to dispute since... damn, I don't know if he was ever dropped beyond that fight. He had a phenomenal chin, which only says that much more of Vazquez' raw/pure punching power.

Jake's scenario was the one that I liked best here... I can certainly see that happening
