Dariusz hadn't lost yet, but that wasn't a big fight anymore man. Not nearly as big as Jones/Ruiz in 2003. Not close.
Of course not. That is why i said he skipped the fight. There is a reason he did this. Of course taking on Ruiz is a bigger fight. It made people forget about michalczweski. That was my point.
Dariusz lost after the Ruiz fight but before the Tarver fight. He could have called Roy out and fought Roy but he didn't, just like he didn't since 1997. Funny how everyone blames Roy for that fight not happening while Dariusz gets a pass.
Blah Blah Blah. Only people, who subscribe to the Roy is the God of ring generalship theory, and can win rounds by the virtue of controlling 2.40 minutes of nothing, while getting punched in the face for the remaining 20 seconds think Roy beat Tarver clearly in the first fight. But those are the same people that thought Mean RJ, the alter ego of Roy Jones (haha remember that crap), was schooling the shit out of Tarver during the first round of the rematch, before they suddenly realized that he was actually weight drained and shot in the 2nd round. :Steve-Dave/MMA: At the same age Tarver was the superior fighter, won at least 15 of 26 rounds and knocked Roy out once. Live with it. artie: Bernard Hopkins is the greater fighter. Period. While they both might have reigend over mediocre divisions for the longest part of their careers, the significant difference is that Hopkins fought every top fighter available in that mediocre division, and certainly didn´t avoid the #1 fighter in his division for a few years. Then there is the issue, that despite his unnatural longevity Hopkins´ career hasn´t been tainted by a positive doping test.
:scratcher:Roy's competition at 175 was better than Hopkins' at 160. Roy beat Hopkins for the middleweight title as well.:cheer:
Not sure I'd characterize it like that...but I doubt Godfather's even watched the fight. "Some thought..." is often code for I didn't watch it, but it helps my argument to say it.
Quite the opposite. If you know anything about boxing and how it is scored Tarver won the first fight.
Right HERE, Right NOW, REED is CHALLENGING YOU to Pinpoint the EXACT Rounds U Gave to Tarver...REED has a Hardcopy of his Round by Round Account of that Fight & Can SUPPORT his Opinion that Roy Jones Won 7 of the 12 Rounds... So Either STOP Talking Shit or BACK UP your Lame Claims...For 1nce... REED:mj:
This Quote of yours Gets Funnier & FUNNIER as this Thread GROWS...It's Now on Page 10, for those that R Counting.... REED:hammert:
Tarver did not win the first fight....he won more round vs. Jones than anyone before him...but he did not win the fight..
tarver landed flush shots like no one ever has, but he still didn't do enough to win 7 rounds. i dont recall too many people scoring that fight for tarver. at best, he might have earned a draw. i thought that was a 8-4 win for jones, but 7-5 is also reasonable. apart from tarver having success in spurts while jones leaning against the ropes, that fight was dictated on jones' terms keeping the fight in the center and controlling from the outside.
Exhibit A of said scoring behaviour and imaginary ring generalship. If the names were reversed people would claim Roy neutralized Tarver in the middle of the ring and punished him with the scoring blows on the ropes. Who cares. Roy can have it. Tarver ended his career and turned him into the sad fighter he is today.
I will re-watch it if I find it online and give you the score . I scored it years ago and I believe I had Tarver up by one point. We shall see but from what I recall Roid barely landed anything of note at all. Some odd body shots and such while Tarver unloaded on him on the ropes on numerous occasions.
Jones won the first fight. No question about it. Tarver had more exciting moments and for the most part those rounds he won. i recall Manny Steward saying immediately after the fight he thought Tarver won but when he looked at his scorecard he had Jones winning. Manny (for once) accurately said Tarver won the "drama" of the fight but Roy won more rounds.
