I have been meaning to catch up with you. I think Irish-Americans regard Ireland in much the same way as Mexican-Americans regard Mexico.....nice to be from, but not very nice to be in. Also they wind the Irish up....we don't say "Top O The Morning To Ya" over here, at all. They also think we are a bit slow but that's OK everything moves faster in America anyways. Some people think that there is no theft or rape or murder in Ireland, that it's a little green island filled with gay happy people and colleens who dance at the cross-roads. I knew one guy from California, not Irish American, but Middle-Eastern American, a Med Student, who left his bike unlocked outside a gym. Needless to say it was stolen. I am sure Temple Bar {Dublin City Center} on a Saturday night would dispel a lot of their misconceptions about how nice "Eye-Err-Land" really is- puking, fighting, loud behaviour, fat slags stuffed into skirts 3 sizes too small for them. That said the Irish-Americans are usually nice to the Irish, they regard us as the losers who didn't make it to the States, and who need pitying.:Giggle:
