Jess Willard stopped Jack Johnson for the heavyweight title. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/pPXB9OLrAnA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
"Willard would surely have licked Lennox Lewis. He combined the evolved pugilistic science of his contemporaries with the brute physicality of today's primitive imitators. The large negro appears foreboding, but the promethean Willard was simply made of stronger stuff." - Ramonza
HArdly. The Irish of 1915-1916 were the European Niggers..................Willard represented the Eastern Establishment, the WASPS, the Union-Breakers, the Irish of 1915-1916 would have identified with the Bleck.

Ireland was an occupied colony of an Empire. Of course, World Star Hip Slop has changed all that. Now you got Republicans called Ryan and the Black Man is as White as Jess Willard. Jack Johnson probably would have strangled Floyd if he got his hand on him. Truth of the matter is Floyd probably would have knocked his ass out in around 4 rounds.
Amazing how rudimentary fighters were back then....but that said, Boxing has evolved faster than say, soccer. Soccer came along in the 1880's and it was not until the Hungarians of the 1950's that you really got any sort of sense out of soccer.
In the span of just ten years, 1920-29, boxing evolved at a shocking pace... Unparalleled in any other sport really ... Baseball changed dramatically in 1920 when they outlawed the spitter and replaced the Dead Ball with the lively ball but that was more a response to a fundamental alteration of equipment rather than any strategic evolution... The live ball encouraged the uppercut swing because hitting a ball 430 feet in the air was suddenly possible instead of a freak occurrence
I am guessing a lively ball is a ball filled with air and a dead ball is a solid ball or a ball featuring no external contours..... In Golf, if the ball was smooth, a drive of 50 yards would be considered massive. It only rises to 200 yards with the dimples.
LOL Dead Ball refers to the balls used prior to 1920... Basically the ball was slightly softer to start with and on top of that, you used it until the thing literally started to come apart at the seams... Furthermore, pitchers rubbed spit on it, dirt, tobacco juice, they scuffed it up all in an effort to make the ball move differently when pitched... As a result of this, you get a beat up, heavier but softer ball... A home run in the modern sense (i.e. Over the wall) was a very rare thing back then... Most homers were inside-the-park jobs... Plus the outfield dimensions were fucking MASSIVE compared to now ... Babe Ruth came along and hit a freakish 29 homers in 1919 (until then, you'd lead the league with a dozen or so typically) ... The next year with the new ball, the spitball outlawed and the practice of replacing the ball numerous times per game, he blasted 54 and the dead ball era was over
