Hopkins vs Trinidad was originally scheduled to take place. It was postponed for 14 days, and they fought on the 29th of September.

    20 YEARS...Geez!

Hey lads, nice to see some stalwarts remain! I don't follow new boxing for the most part, but I still love to talk about the historical glory days of boxing. JoM and X, glad to see you still around. :)

You aren't missing much at all.

I still follow the current scene, but 90% of my boxing viewing is older fights on YouTube.

It's not just nostalgic to say, this generation is totally uninteresting and unappealing compared to the crop we had 20-25 years ago.

The Trinidad, Jones, Oscar, Hopkins, Mosley, Lewis, PRETTY BOY Floyd, Hamed, MAB, Morales era, takes a steaming shit on this pathetic era.

Glad to see you're alive, and well!

There's lots to like about this generation, just far, far more to dislike.

There is a lot to like about this crop, but none of them really have the electric appeal of the late 90s/early 00s stars.

Canelo is the perfect example. Canelo is big to the MAINSTREAM, and to women. But to boxing fans, trust me, Trinidad was 100x bigger.

I can't emphasize enough how big Trinidad mania was on forums pre-Hopkins. Canelo doesn't have a real fan base of HARDCORES... Trinidad had an entire legion.

This era has Bud... very good fighter. 20 years ago... we had Roy. No comparison.

These guys just aren't the same.

Thanks, dude. I agree that era was so much fun. Interesting characters, great fights, and memorable moments in and around fight day and fight prep.

Yeah, there was an electricity around here back then around fights that's long been dead.

It's pretty simple to understand - we were all young, and passionate. Now we're old men, and I guess life priorities have made boxing somewhat secondary.

My biggest beef with today's generation is that the big fight rarely, if never, happens. Buch of wannabes influencers who are more interested in lining up their pockets while taking the least risk possible than to prove they are the best. I know it's cliche to say so, but apart from Loma and Canelo, it seems that no one else is concerned with fighting top opposition in his weight class.

I remember this. Ginuwine performed the national anthem and tried to put some aggressive spin on it that didn’t go over so well.

How popular is Canelo is Mexico?

Obviously I know he’s not huge like the charismatic Tito is in PR, on Pacquiao in the Philippines, or JCC was in Mexico in the 80s-90s, but is he very popular and well liked in his country.

I remember reading an article in Grantland talking about how his popularity in Mexico is greatly exaggerated and hyped, but that was way back in 2013 before he really improved as a fighter.

I also remember this humorously bad rendition by R. Kelly at the Hopkins-Taylor rematch.

Perhaps it would have been more fitting if he performed at a Oscar De La Hoya, Eric Morel, or Bruce Seldon fight.

I didn’t think that performance was bad at all. Kelly put his typical spin on it and gave it some style. It beats the typical go-through-the-motion boring-ass rendition we get every other time.

By the way I did try to find that Ginuwine performance to link in my post but I couldn’t find a copy of it on YouTube.

Always liked Ginuwine. I still bump his music. He put out some dope shit in the late 90s/early 00s.

"Stingy" is one of my favorite R&B songs OAT.

Just watched Hopkins-Tito in remembrance. A hard fight for me to watch as I was a big Tito fan. I didn't get to see the fight at the time as I'd just moved to Spain and had trouble watching any boxing and nowhere was showing it. I was waiting to find out the result for days aftewards. Was gutted when I heard Hopkins had won.

As for the R Kelly rendition, I thought he pissed all over it.

Marvin Gaye's rendition of the US anthem is the only one worth listening to imo.
