Actors throughout history who just had a charisma that dominates the screen, which in many cases means more than actual acting ability.

    Guys who come to mind:

Nicholson: I think he's the winner here. I don't think there's ever been an actor with more screen charisma than Jack.

    Eastwood

    Connery

    Newman

    Denzel

    Hackman

    Walken

    Redford

    Hanks

Tom Cruise: Hate to admit it, but it's undeniable.

    Who else?

An example of a guy who LACKS charisma: Matt Damon. Damon was charismatic in Good Will Hunting, but that's about it. Short of that I've always found him INCREDIBLY dull as an acting personality.

John Garfield, Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas , Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro come to mind

Forgot about Kirk Douglas. To a lesser extent, his son probably belongs somewhere on the list too.

Michael Douglas isn't a great actor per say, but always had a lot of screen charisma.

    Pacino and DeNiro definitely.

    Harrison Ford belongs.

Would Cdogg blow his shit if I mentioned Bruce Willis? JK, I won't.

How familiar are you with Kirk's roles. Did you ever see Paths Of Glory, Detective Story, Champion, Young Man With A Horn, The Hook, In Harm's Way??

I’ll even throw in Stallone and Schwarzenegger for turning a decade worth of B movies into multimillion dollar franchises.

I’ll add Wahlberg to the lacks charisma to go along with X’s accurate assessment of Damon.

What about Pitt? Will Smith? DiCaprio?

DiCaprio definitely. Both great talent and shitloads of charisma.

Also some chicks such as Streep and Thurman belong.

Top three would be Nicholson, Denzel and Pacino

Not so sure about Hardy and Bale. Screen presence yes, charisma? Not so much.

Yeah, I can't say that Tom Hardy has much charisma at all. I don't see it.

I think Kevin Costner belongs. Far from a great actor, but a lot of screen charisma.

Liked him a lot many years ago. Did an overlooked and virtually unknown brilliant little counterfeiting potboiler named "Boiling Point" with Dennis Hopper and Vigo Mortenson written by former Treasury Agent Gerald Petievich who also wrote "To Live And Die In LA". Need to catch up on snipes perhaps I'll do it while I'm locked down.

It's a toss up between Crispin Glover & David Arquette.

I haven’t seen enough of his films (especially in his prime) to really judge him. He seemed to have more screen presence than a strong charisma to him. Kind of like the mob boss who sits in the back watching but you always know he’s there.

Yes exactly, like Hardy and Bale- big time screen presence but not that charismatic.

How do you define the difference? I think presence and charisma are pretty much the same thing

    Not quite.

Charisma is more an endearing effect you have on other people, e.g. humour, friendliness.

Presence is more about how you come across or represent yourself in a situation - maybe with authority.

e.g. Nicholson's Randall P McMurphy had the former.
Brando's Don Vito Corleone had the latter

    Total semantic nonsense.

Do you captivate the fucking audience or not?

Nah. Heath Ledger's Joker was extremely charismatic, but I wouldn't call him friendly. Same with Jack Nicholson for the most part

Anton Chigurh was charismatic. Was that a guy a friendly joke teller?
