I think PBF wins this one. He has the skills, speed, and style to greatly trouble Arguello.

Obviously it will not be a total cakewalk like PBF-Corrales, since Arguello is much smarter and a better boxer. Arguello's timing was excellent, so he'd probably catch Floyd with some decent shots. Tasting Alexis's power, Mayweather would be more defensive and on the backfoot more. I see a rather dull UD win for Mayweather.

I think in the triangle at 130, Chavez beats PBF, PBF beats Arguello, and Arguello beats Chavez.

Chavez beats Arguello at any weight.

    I disagree.

I think Arguello beats Chavez @ 130. Chavez wins @ 135, by about the same margin that Arguello won @ 130.

Now that I think about it, you could be right. Arguello's best chance against Chavez would certainly be at 130. Only because Julio was still relatively green at this weight, whereas 130 was Arguello's best weight. But at 135 and 140 I like Chavez, either by UD or a late TKO.

    I don't disagree.

For all his range, Arguello wasn't filled out, or built like Chavez and his prime rested around 126 and 130. Chavez probably in the latter stages of 130 and into 135...eeeeeeeeeeeearly 140.

The two don't actually translate to a prime vs prime matchup like you'd think, IMO. Would have been a fan-fucking-tastic fight though. Both guys were all business and did not waste a single punch. Brutality would be in abundance.

Agreed. I think probably the best weight for the fight to happen would be 135. This was Julio's best weight, and although Arguello was slightly past it at 135, he was still an excellent lightweight.

I agree with that. Arguello did struggle with defensive, mobile, slick fighters - though to be fair, the Vilomar fight was up at lightweight (where Arguello wasn't yet comfortable) only a month after the Alcala bout.

But even the Olivares and Escalera fights (esp. the first) showed he needed time to adjust and catch up to moving fighters - though he always figured them out and broke them down.

It would be noooo walk in the park for Mayweather....especially in the late rounds where Arguello would really march forward behind a stiff jab and really be all over PBF.

Ultimately PBF takes it close on points....just not a style that favors Alexis.

    Peace.

I've always thought Arguello would have beaten Chavez at 130....too many weapons and Alexis was at his prime there.

    At 135, I see a dead-even contest, truly....pick 'em.

    Peace.

Arguello's range and power would always give Chavez huge problems. Even at 140, Chavez never pulled off a performance like Pryor vs. Arguello.
