All Time Best Cop/Detective Series

    Name what are in your opinion the very best of the best P4P tv cops/detectives series. Fringe shows like "Hawaii Five-0"(anti-terrorist intelligence), "The Fugitive"(the focus was the escaped fugitive day to day interaction with new characters) or legal dramas (like 'Perry Mason") don't count. We are talking about plain police department/detective shows. Keep in mind that 'popularity' doesn't translate into greatness ('C.H.iP.s' was a very popular show, but was barely watchable).

    Here are some that comes to my mind:

    1. Dragnet
    2. Starsky & Hutch
    3. N.Y.P.D. Blue
    4. Barretta
    5. Kojak
    6. Crime Story
    7. Hill Street Blues
    8. SWAT
    9. The MOD Squad
    10. Miami Vice
    11. Cagney & Lacey
    12. Columbo
    13. Mannix
    14. The Untouchables (1959-1963)
    15. Law & Order
    16. Hunter
    17. Ironside
    18. Cannon (just because he was the first FAT leading man detective :lol:)
    19. Moonlightning (okay it was a comedy, so what? it was great!)
    20. Police Story

    Any series on any tv channel. Doesn't matter if is HBO, Showtime or Playboy Channel. :lol:

    In that case you need to move The Wire to 1A. You obviously never watched it, seeing as how it's not on your list and isn't number one. Hell many peeps think it's arguably the best tv series ever and I'm inclined to agree with them, although I do think Game of Thrones is a tic better.

    I was not making a list in any particular order. Just a sample of the ones that came to my mind at that moment. No, I never followed The Wire. I watched like 2 episodes and quit since it looked like it was all about jailbirds violence.

    It could be argued that "The Wire" is ambiguous enough that it doesn't really belong in this category.

    I'm not saying it's the most entertaining or realistic but I always liked the original Law & Order. When there was drama it was about the cases and not the cop/lawyer's personal issues.

    No way is Law and Order the best. It wasn't the most entertaining and it certainly wasn't realistic. Can't believe you're saying this.
