If moving up a few pound doesn't negative effects him....Rios could duplicate what Maidana did PLUS some extra....
Khan outboxes him. Rios doesn't have the speed or the craft to negate Khan's strengths....mainly height and length.
Perhaps. He might be a bit more effective at applying pressure, but he doesn't hit has hard as Maidana, afaict.
Same line of thinking but in the opposite direction. I say that at best (for Rios), it's a repeat of Khan-Maidana. I see Khan winning this one handily, and one more reason why I don't think Bam Bam should move up any time soon. Plenty of work to be done at lightweight, where he can emerge as the star of the division, before cashing out.
I am really impressed with Khan's movement and use of his range. He will be difficult to beat at 140. And he should be difficult for the guys at 147 as well.
I guess, but he's seven years into his career. He is who he is, just a more disciplined version (training-wise) than was the case a couple of years ago. Right now, his gift is the ability to overwhelm his opponents, and that will begin to go away as he moves up in weight. Besides, the poll asks what we think the result would be six months from now. So no, I don't think he'll improve THAT much by then
Khan should be able to outbox him. But I think Rios is a superior fighter to Maidana and its not inconceivable that he could draw Khan into a bar room brawl and catch him late.
Rios is way overrated these days. He's a face first pressure guy who is not that big for 135 and looks soft. Moving up will not be a good idea for Rios.
The hell are you talking about? Rios is a HUGE lightweight. As for Rios-Khan....... Khan would be favored, and rightfully so. But I wouldnt count Rios out. Bam Bam brings alot more to the table than old ass Zab. If Khan fades late with Rios, he'd be fucked.
Rios would be just fine at 140. He's got the height and frame. He'd be a legitimate threat to anyone at 140 with his power, chin, and workrate. He's a strong mofo.
A pressure fighter who throws very accurate and powerful shots on the inside and has a damn good chin. That would not be an easy fight for Khan. Rios would force him to fight inside at many points in the fight, and Khan's stamina would have to hold up, not to mention his chin.
The last "basic pressure fighter" Khan faced had him damn near out, and BARELY lost to him. Rios has more refined skills than Maidana.
He's actually a fairly polished pressure fighter. No defense, but far more skilled offensively than Maidana. If you want basic, look no further than Maidana, who was slapping Khan around the ring for the majority of the second half of the fight. Rios would probably stop Khan. He would be fine at 140 too. Him looking soft at 135 doesn't mean anything, some people just have that body type. Nando looked soft at 154, but he was a fairly big 154 pounder.
Rios... He seems to have short arms, I might just be seeing things though. Khan is a way better athlete anyway.
His reach looks average for 5'8. Khan is a way better athlete than Maidana too, didn't stop the crude Argentinian from slapping Khan around like a ragdoll for half the fight.
Still haven't seen enough of Rios to make a fair comment to be honest, but he seems to be getting talked up ALOT here
He wasn't impressive, though. Finished that fight hanging on for dear life when he couldn't run anymore. And this was against a guy who was a good puncher, but who has very little in terms of skill.
