......its A Mere Khons next fight.

Amir Khan says he hopes his next fight can be arranged in the "next few days" and that Northern Ireland's Paul McCloskey could be his opponent.

WBA light-welterweight champion Khan told BBC 5 live his management was "looking at all the options".

Speaking of McCloskey, the European champion at 140lb, Khan said: "He approached us. He's an undefeated fighter. I'm happy to take the fight."

The Bolton-born boxer restated his aim of unifying the division this year.

He wants to fight the winner of the forthcoming bout between the US fighters Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander on 29 January.

Bradley is the WBO light-welterweight champion and Alexander holds the WBC belt.
In the meantime, Khan, 24, says a match with Dungiven's McCloskey at the MEN Arena in Manchester on 16 April is likely.

Not unexpected, everytime I hear the name Paul McCloskey, the phrase light-hitting is never far behind. McCloskey is an elusive and speedy southpaw who isn't that elusive or speedy.

I think Amir should just go to the registry in Bolton and tell them he wants to be known as Yusuf Ali Joe Gamache from now on.

McCloskeys biggest win is stopping an ancient and washed up Giuseppe Lauri, who was a Hatton/Witter/Ted Bami victim like forever ago.

After Ricky Burns winning a title last year it'd be rather fantastic to have two good eggs to support as world champions. A farcical joke of a match up, but I'll be routing for the upset.

Well I guess he deserves a soft touch after the fight with Maidana.

But he better either give Maidana a rematch or go for the Bradley-Alexander winner afterwards or then he becomes a joke.

The only fight of his I recall seeing was when he stopped Colin Lynes in... I guess 2008? Seemed like a good win, and a good performance, though not sure where Lynes rates in the grand scheme of things. I've seen Lynes enough to know that he's little more than a gatekeeper, but I figured good enough to where he'd expose a fraud posing as a contender.

I take it from immediate feedback that this isn't exactly an HBO-level matchup?

Peterson is light hitting too. Its not like Lamont had any shot at beating Conman.
