Dear Admins: I have known for some time that when I submit a piece to Fightbeat, that people may not care for the piece. I want to assure anyone who I might make a submission to that I do not, and I will not, take it personally if you do not care for the piece! I am writing this letter publickly partially, so all can see because I think by saying this publickly, you can see how little it bothers me that Fightbeat may not care for a piece I produced for the site! So now everyone can surmize that dsimon may have written some stuff that was not acceptable to Fightbeat! :crying: First: I do not care because I respect this community and can take critiscism... Second: I have published work in most of the major Martial Arts Magazines in circulation now and in other journals in other areas. Here is what I will no longer tolerate: If I respond to Cupey's call to arms with some pieces and by doing a few pressers, and submit stuff and hear nothing back! Here is what I generally do: I write a piece and then ask if there is an interest in it. I then make edits based on the feedback I get. If the piece is totally not what the site wants then I can it, or submit it somewhere else, if they want a different voice, a different format, whatever.... Please!! If somehting is for shit to you just tell me!!! I will still love you in the morning I promise!!! Sincerely dsimon3387. PS You guys should let people know where to submit work formally as well
well, first off, jake's w/ boxingscene. secondly, cupey is infamously known for doing what you just stated above. ::
Listen to Joony, he knows what he's talking about! Seriously, I'm trying to remove myself from that process and simply be more involved in the actual publishing of material. Therefore what I hope for is for someont to work with Reed on the editing front and the acceptance of material and simply submit to me a piece of material worthy of the site that I can publish. I hope that clears things up. Regards, Cupey
Maybe you guys could just give Dsimon a blanket "Your Shit Sucks" response so that you don't have to waste time reading and responding to every piece.
Here's the Deal... REED's Done a HOSTILE Takeover (:warning::fightme:) & Appointed HIMSELF "Director" of Content... REED Sees Himself as a Liaison btwn Cupey & Those that Want to SUBMIT Articles...REED Can & Will Edit for the Time Being (If Noone Else Steps Up), but ULTIMATELY, it'd B Nice if an OFFICIAL "Editor" Could B Appointed... Also, it'd B Nice if Someone Assumed the Role of Actually PUTTING Finished Products on the Homepage...Articles, Pictures, Whatever...REED's a NOTORIOUS Cyber IDIOT & Admittedly, it just Might Take MORE Time than it's Worth to TEACH REED how to Do that Type of Shit... Spelling it Out, YOU Write the Articles, REED (Or Someone Else) will EDIT Them, Forward the FINISHED Product to the "Homepage Guy" & then, VOILA!!!...Your Piece is on Fightbeat... REED'll B the Guy REMINDING the Writers that Content is NEEDED AND REMINDING the Homepage Guy(s) that Finished Articles NEED to B DISPLAYED...There'll B NO Favoritism on Either Side...REED's ONLY Goal is Having a CONSTANT Array of Content on Fightbeat's Homepage... & YES, REED will STILL Submit his Own Shit as Well... So Brother DSimon, PM your Article(s) to REED & We'll Get the Ball Rolling, Dog...No Bullshit... Anyone INTERESTED N WRITING or HELPING w/the Process, PM REED...If Not, SPARE Fightbeat your Criticisms...It's NOT what your Website can Do for You, it's was YOU Can Do for YOUR WEBSITE!!!... REED:hammert:
dsimon writes: Reed submit stuff to me that you want some help editing. If any cyber smart guys can.... do a conference call or something and I will try to educate myself on the details along with Reed. Ok, so Reed is the go to guy it is official yes?
dsimon writes: clearin stuff up is a good thing. And the fact that Jake and others might be from other sites should not be a hinderance, there is actually plenty of material to write. The important thing is the editing process and consistancy. I know of what I speak in this regard. I can help REed editing some stuff, though usually I am on the other end of the game. I edit all my friends damn grad school thesi! ::
Well basically the position I'm taking is that I don't want to be the one that declares something worthy material of the site--we have plenty of intelligent, creative people that can make that decision. I simply think that Reed and whoever else wants to step up to help out is equipped to make such decisions and won't be afraid to reject submissions if they don't qualify to be on our home page or news section. Please not that not everything written deserves a Feature article. Some of it is perfectly fine in the news section Cupey
Just to let everybody know. If you are writing content for FightBeat.com and need a photo to use, feel free to check out my photo archives on my website here: http://www.boxingtreasures.com/photographic-prints-from-boxing-archive.html The list of boxers I have is in alphabetical order. It mainly consists of pre-1960's boxers so obviously this would only apply to throwback type pieces. I'm always adding to it, so if I don't have somebody this month I might have them next month or next year. Let me know you are writing an article for FightBeat.com and which photo(s) you need and I'll resize them for web use and e-mail them to you for free use. If you are not with FightBeat.................you must pay. :nono: Sorry I can't get newer stuff for you guys.
That's the MOST IMPORTANT Part of All of this... Fightbeat ISN'T Opening the Doors for Joe Blow to Test HIS OWN Writing Skills...U've GOT to Bring SOMETHING to The Fucking Table... ALL Pieces WILL B Considered, but REED CAN'T Promise that ALL Submissions will B DISPLAYED... Having Said that, CHECK your FEELINGS @ the DOOR & PM ya Boy... REED:hammert:
Just and FYI, despite our up and downs over the years TODAY we still maintain a solid standing in the Alexa Media sections as #12 in the world http://www.alexa.com/browse/general...ral&R=&Start=0&BrowseStart=0&CategoryID=30253 With the right effort and people leading this machinery I'm sure we can easily reach the top. Many sites have come and gone but we are now in the championship rounds, a little behind, but with power in both hands to score a come from behind KO. Cupey
dsimon writes: Cupey would have to respond with that statement from time to time.:: Sorry it won't work. I don't really think Cupey actually read the article I was just hoping to provoke him! :: Think about it.... all he has to say is oh yeah I read that and it sucked!! Sorry dsimon. :: But he won't he will say.... uhh I wan't somebody else to read it. And maybe I read it and didn't like it? Maybe?
I will say from a purely neutral perspective that it is a good thing to have people edit your stuff. Zach Levine and Kenneth and Joe Rein did a great job helping me in writing better and teaching me the kinds of sentences and syntax that just don't sound professional or correct in the setting of being called "Journalism" So that said, all roads are gonna go to REED and dsimon, but I think you two should make sure you have one or two other people read your stuff and debate it to check for the syntax stuff that I had trouble with early on.
Damn, how did my name make its way to this discussion? Even stranger is the fact that, DSimon, you and I already discussed this through e-mail. Strange thread, but if FB gains a writer from it, then an effective one, nevertheless.
:: dsimon's strange brand of dyslexia is not a reflection of his writing ability. his writing is a valuable addition to the site. articles will be getting proofed anyway, no matter who the writer is.
yeah, but who doesn't? I mean, I don't think anyone posts on a message board for the sake of blending in. I'm just saying I haven't been an admin or with the site (writing, etc) since early last year.
dsimon writes: A little? I don't know who is officially an admin... and I don't care. I know who is respected in the fightbeat community. I did however think Jake was still with Fightbeat.... Sorry Jake.
