Animal Kingdom: well-reviewed, overrated

    aussie gangster movie, 97% fresh on rottentomatoes, with reviewers gushing stuff like "Excellent Aussie crime drama thoroughly deserving of its across-the-board rave reviews. We repeat: go and see it." saw it in cinema today; gratuitous extreme events (someone gets shot, someone looks like they're gonna get raped, another person gets shot), pointlessly self-important direction (after each extreme event we get a slow-mo, close-up, and swelling background music), nothing really special about it.

    I preferred Jacki Weaver's performance over Melissa Leo's in The Fighter.

    i guess she's the mom? wasn't that impressed really; just the usual over-the-top gangster-matriarch stuff. :shrug:

    Disagree, but yours is kinda the feeling I had about the performance that won Supporting Actress...wasn't that impressed.
