Ankle injury forces Anderson Silva out of UFC 148 title fight with Chael Sonnen by Steven Marrocco on July 5, 2012 at 10:22 pm UFC 148's fight card has taken a turn for the worse as Anderson Silva was forced to pull out of this Saturday's UFC 148 PPV Championship Fight, due to what sources say, could be a severely sprained ankle. Silva (31-4 MMA, 14-0 UFC) has been forced to withdraw from a scheduled main-event title fight with #1 middleweight contender Chael Sonnen (27-11-1 MMA, 6-4 UFC) at the July 7th event, which takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The Brazil-based Web site Tatame first reported the news minutes ago, which was subsequently confirmed by Yahoo! Sports' Kevin Iole. The Tatame report stated Silva hurt his ankle in training and will not be able to recover in time for the fight. Josuel Distak, Silva's trainer, stated that Silva's ankle had been a problem all through training. Iole subsequently confirmed the injury with UFC president Dana White via his Twitter account. Nah im just fucking with you. The fight is still on.
